  • Problem with importing .aiff files from Pro Tools HD to Final Cut Pro 5.1.2

    Hello there,

Lately we have been experiencing problems with importing *.aiff audio files created from Pro Tools HD. We are using Final Cut Pro 5.1.2.

The scenario is that, when we tried to import the audio, the length or the duration of the file is reduced to around 0.2%. Please see example: before importing to final cut, actual length of audio is 00:03:41;21 but when imported to FCP, the duration has been shortened to 00:03:41;14.

What seems to be the problem? Any ideas?

Work fascinates me. I can stare and look at it for hours.

When you open the file in QT and get movie info, what does the duration say?

I import aifs from Pyramix all the time and they are always correct legth. I am working in PAL so perhaps it is an NTSC thing although .2% is more than pullup/ pulldown frequecies for DF non Drop.

    Thanks Michael,

I tried to input another .aiff file. In final cut, it’s duration appears to be 00:00:00;21. Yet in the Quicktime using the movie info option, the duration is 00:00:00.69. Another file which has 15:06.36 became 15:06;12 in Final Cut.

Is this change of duration significantly affects the syncing of the imported audio? Or is this normal?

    Cheers!

Doesn’t sound normal at all. What does FCP think the sample rate is? After importing have a look at the clip properties. I am curious if the aif file has the sample rate flag set to something different to 48Khz. If so then I wonder if Pro Tools is setting something wrong in the file.
