A split can be done by cropping the top layer. Open a clip and set the left crop to 50. Copy clip, select all the rest of the clips and paste attributes but only select cropping. This assumes you have no other cropping info in the sequence casue if you do then you might want to nest and then crop the nest.

    [Wayne Carey]
One question, was the HDV footage acquired via firewire into the Adrenalin?”

Yes it was. This was a PAL job so the footage is 1080 50i.

The V1 has some really nice on board gamma curves. That plus the lens seems a bit sharper and the color was cleaner making the pics outstanding. Its not HDCam with Canon primes but it is impressive. I still prefer the Canon XL H1 with primes but the V1 has restored some faith in Sony.

[grassrootsla] “Know of any 3rd party apps that I can use to accurately convert my EDL?”

I haven’t had to do this, so no I don’t know any apps, but I would have expected Cinema Tools to be able to do this.

Experienced ones will wake up soon and answer this for you.

[Scott Mills] “I’ll be grabbing the footage right off the camera via SDI”

Personally I think that is madness.

You can always cut in SD and reconform uncompressed or ProRez elswhere after the offline.

I have been onlining uncompressed HD for two years on a G5 2.5, but with a fibre 4TB sata RAID. I have upgraded to FCS2. At this stage only Color doesn’t work with my hardware setup.

There are other issues to consider too like external HD monitoring. If you have a perfectly good SD setup and a Decklink HD card, you can capture straight from HDCam to SD in DV, uncompressed or MJPEG.

I don’t know if Devas support 23.98 frame rates. I work in PAL but my understanding was that 29.97 sound code was normal, so I am sure that there will be a way to convert. If not in FCP there must be third party apps

EDL reel names can easily be replaced using a word processor with Find & Replace commands.

[Dave LaRonde] “your DVD guys are certain to be able to work with either codec”

Better still, ask them what codec they want.

Deconvolution of reverb is a bit of a Holy Grail. You have no idea how difficult a concept is is to remove reverb via this method but it is the only thing that can work. Serious mathematics geniuses have been mulling over this for years. When they do it, it will be the final death for location sound recordists.

Meanwhile try notch filtering certain resonant frequencies that make the dialog muddy. A big room like a church will have resonances between 100 – 200Hz. Using a parametric EQ, wind up gain and then slide the frequency up and down until you hear the boominess take off. Then cut the gain to remove. It doesn’t get rid of reverb but takes some of the muddiness out. Also try a second notch at the double of the first frequency.

Cee, the codec might be downloadable from the web. DVCPro 1080p25 is not on my system either although 720p 25 is and 1080i 50 also is in DVCPro. I am running 6.0.1

What happens when you open a sequence using DVCPro 1080i 50 and drop the quicktime into the timeline?

The next problem is that you need to convert from 25 frame to 29.97. Compressor or Nattress filters are the options in FCP
