    Sean,

Which raid card are you currently using? I just purchased a Sonnet and was considering getting the Rocketraid with the external “harmonica” sata connector. Have heard slightly better reviews of the Rocketraid.

I’m using Seagate 400gb Barracudas. Would you recommend using Softraid over Apple’s raid utility with the Sonnet card?

    Thanks,
    Michael

I’m considering using my Io as a converter for monitoring both audio and video from the downconverted SD-SDI out of the Kona 2. Basically, I need my Io to feed my composite Waveform/Vectorscope – and I need the audio converted to analog.

I hear from AJA that there is a one frame audio delay. The delay doesn’t annoy me too much as I’ll only be using this for previewing before I go to tape. Have you experienced any difficulties?

Also, which version of the driver/firmware/FCP/OS are you running? I just got a new system and installed everything up to the latest version (FCP 5, etc…). Keeping my old system available if there are any hicups along the way.

    Thanks,
    Michael

The best/cleanest solution would be to provide them with a TIF or PSD file that contains alpha channel.

  • What are your setups?

I actually use two old ATA drives that I striped over two FW800 external cases – but I just use it as a backup and archive drive.

I agree with Mitch – SATA drives striped are the way to go for 10bit UC. I have two 250gb internals in my Dual 1G with a SATA controler card. Recently, I had a client purchase a burly box with 4 drives and a 4×4 SATA card. It’s been a champ – but you don’t have any parity protection. So, there’s always a slight risk. Backup backup backup.

As for the Io, I’m a big fan. Get the full size. The options alone are worth the money. Unless some magic bullet comes out for HD and SD I don’t think I’ll be selling mine on eBay for a very long time. Also, I cut a lot of news-based pieces and use DV50 for offline/output to Beta SP or Digibeta. If I was doing a show with a lot of graphics or need for color correction, then I’d consider 10bit.

Recently, I used the Io to do color work on a show for OLN shot on the DVX100a. It’s a champ.

    Good Luck,
    Micahel

FCP doesn’t switch the field order on reverses. Download these filters – they seem to do a great job:

and they’re even FREE! Thanks Graeme!!

    Good luck,
