my bad, indeed it works better with “Embedded in the source clip” selected : when timecode is recognized for a shot, the timecode is still recognized when its added to the media pool.
The problem is there are dozens of quickitme files for which the timecode is not recognized at all (lets call them the “unrecognized”).
It makes impossible an edl conform. Yet the unrecognized do have timecode, that FCP displays successfully. Looking at the unrecognized in quicktime player, I noticed that they have a timecode track. All in all, I could not find any difference between the unrecognized and the other files.
If I don’t find a solution, it’s going to be problematic to conform this hour-long documentary, I’m going to have to export one file and use scene detection : not ideal for the numerous fades

Illya, could you try using SwitchResX de-activating feature to run Color with 2 monitors on one gpu, and 1 monitor deactivated by SwitchResX on the second gpu ?
I will do the test myself in a not so distant futurecheers

okay, I found what seems to be a very promising solution.
The Excellent SwitchResX, which I already use, has the ability to disable a display, just like if you had unplugged it.
I think this makes it possible to have all 4 heads of the 2 gpus hooked up to a normal DVI matrix, and enable-disable the outputs at will so as to have one or the other of your gpus free of any monitor.

Color is not the only app that probably won’t make use the Qaudro Fx if the monitors are not hooked to it.
Plus, I think it will be likely that I won’t drop Color anytime soon. Color is very powerful once you have trusted workflows, and I would be surprised if DaVinci was better in every single aspect. Time will tell.
“I tend to find it makes most sense to have a machine that does a job and to configure it so that is what it’s best at.
“Your point makes sense : if you can afford it (money & space & efficient networking), it could be better & simpler to build a station dedicated to daVinci grading. For my studio, this is not the route I’m going to follow, hence my quest to easily switch the video card to which the the monitors are connected to.

First of all, you can’t run Color in a DaVinci setup? So, if my DVI monitor is connected to the GT120,the Quadro or GT285 is doing the math for DaVinci, when you run Color, shouldn’t it be using the GT120?
From my understanding, Color should work fine in a DaVinci setup ; the only drawback is that Color will then be using the very small video card the monitors are connected to (GT120) instead of a big one (GTX285,FX4800) : render times will increase.[Arthur Puig]

I would be only too happy to deal with your support, but please do improve it.
When I had a problem with an awful bug on AJA QTToDPXTranslator, I sent :
– 1 support request on your website
– 1 email, on the 1st of May
– 1 email, May the 5th
– got a generic answer the 10th of May
– 1 email on the 11th
– 1 email on the 18th
– 1 support request on the websiteThen nothing for a couple weeks.
A couple hours after posting on the cow, I finally got an answer from support, which tried to be helpful.
In the end, after 1 day work, I found by myself a workaround for the bug (change the timezone) ; I think that if a Developper had read the crash report I had included, it would have taken him/her 5mn to figure the bug out. I wrote Aja support about the solution. Got no answer. Noticed that the bug is still here in the latest version of the app.
Expecting that if you didn’t get the time to compile a universal binary, 5 years after the 1st intel mac, it would be unlikeley you could do so shortly, I found a workaround.
People trying to automate AJA QTToDPXTranslator can use this script : https://www.michaelcinquin.com/get/automate_aja_QTToDPX_translator.zip ; it’s a dirty hack, but it’s free & open source.

PS : I don’t think at all problem could be with spam, if only because I have also tried support request on your webiste, or because running my own mail server it’s easy to check if messages were rejected on your side or mine.

you were right. I did not update the firmware, thanks for insisting on the manual procedure.
But this is not the solution of the problem of the ajaRGB to dpx conversion, which works on your computer, but not on mine, and is supposed to work on any computer, including those without an Aja.
It’s a bug in QTToDpxTranslator. I wonder why it happens only here.
I spend hours on this, trying to uninstall, downgrade, upgrade, clear the caches, repair the permissions, re-install the os, delete quicktime components, create new users.Etc, etc…
To no avail.
But then I watched more closely the error report : QTToDPXTranslator.app was crashing when trying to convert the date to a cString “2010:06:09:11:41:17G…”
So I tried to set my timezone from Brussels time to Chicago Time : it works ! Back to Brussels time : it crashes ! Just try it.
I really resent that Aja took weeks to answer and did not bother to shuffle through the error report, even though I told them I had tried everything (I did get a new generic email from them hours after posting here).

when I get the image upside down, after I’m tired of enjoying the change, I open up Aja Control Panel -> Control, change the “default video output” from Black (or anything) to test pattern, then back to its normal settings, and voila, the image is ok again.
