f900R Makes more sense in the light of recently bumping up the features on the 750 and 730 (see below) they need to keep a price and perfomance difference with f900.
Existing f900s will still be better than 750s so they are not alienating existing customers. (thats me!)WIll be interesting to see if they go 14bit AD and if so how this would intercut with 12bit f900s.
The 730 (2001), then the 730S (2004) then at IBC 2005 there was the 730SC? (c for cinegamma)
This has now manafested itself as V2 software upgrade ( with a cinegamma curve) both for HDW 750p and HDW730SThey do fiddle with the model numbers and float ideas at trade shows for reaction or mass confusion.
Where is their 444 camera???, the HDCf950 has been discontinued…a 444 output on the HDW f900R would be very neat indeed…hand me the sonic screw driver captain…

A HDW900R without the f would, base don current model descriptions would indicate that it cant do 23.98 or 24p. I’ve seen others refer to it as f900R though.
Also heard others get Genesis confused with f900.R would stand for Ramp? but only half a ramp as it won’t do slomo unless they have been keeping big secrets!
Price will be interesting.
A 14bit AD is likely.
14bit and timelapse is another small step in the right direction.Out in Jan usually means deliveries in Jan 2007?

November 23, 2005 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Is HDCAM *really* 135 Mb/sec, or is it *really* 440 Mb/sec?If you have an xpri then you can record the compressed HDCAM codec.
Otherwise you will record the HDSDI stream from the player.regards

[Jan Crittenden Livingston] “In geneal it would be a bad idea at best. It is a progressive chip set, the DSP captures the signal as a 1080P/60 signal. Then based on how you have the camera set up to record, it wil down convert or cross convert to that format.
As I said before it is a progressive chip set.”
Thanks Jan
Good luck with the launch

p.s. So Sony Cine Alta is taking advantage of only 1.1 milion pixels instead of 2.2?“
Got it!
Cinealta camera head produces 1920×1080 10 bit 4:2:2 from HDSDI output on camera. However put a tape int he camera and 1440×1080 ixels are recorded.
Most HD camcorders do not record all the pixels the ccd has to offer.Mike

>No there are interlace chips and there are progressive ones.
Yes.
My point is that use of the term progressive for a camera with interlace chip is not illegal as there is marketing and engineering definitions of the word that are open to embellishment.A savvy buyer should be circumspect when any manufacturer users the term progressive
and manufacturers with true progressive clocked ccds should shout the loudest!Mike Brennan

>I don’t see any condusion between real progressive and interlaced and fake progressive. I think everyone knows that the Z1 is an interlaced camera with interlaced chips and rather poor faked progressive modes.
Graeme,
The marketing adapts.
The market place think that the X300 is a progressive camera. The HDCAM XD literature says it is “records progressive” and that it is a “progressive camcorder”.
I can see Sony commng out with “True Progressive Recording” for HDCAM XD. Sure it does but derived from a interlace image.Remember when Panasonic and Sony marketing made everyone believe that HDCAM and DVCPRO HD recorded 1920×1080 and 1220×720 pixels respectively?
I’m hoping that Panasonic can communicate very clearly what is happening in the new camera, from the outset, simply using the word progressive to describe its workings leaves a lot to be desired, they’ll sell more cameras if they get it right!
