I know about that. I have the MOV file the export to Quick Time without using self contained and it is the issue. Just the first few seconds show up and freeze while the audio continues. I had the similar problem with my 2009 iMac with FCP7. The only difference was that the 09 iMac had black video with sound. I do not use any of the files on another computer. This is a FPC7 Problem.

If I check self contained the MOV file comes out perfect but also takes a lot longer to export.

Self Contained Export is not a problem. It has always been when I create a reference file by unchecking the self contained box that never works. Tested on two iMacs, Results were black screen with audio or frozen screen 3 seconds in with audio. All audio played back just fine.

Yep FCP weirdness forces me to switch to Final Cut Pro X. Thank You

Yes countless reboots no Change. I did buy a new iMac yesterday and tried it on that mac with a 5 minute clip. Without checking the Self Contained Block my 5 minute encode created a MOV file that shows the first 3 seconds of the video and then stops but the audio keeps playing. I tried the export again this time to a second Firewire 800 drive, same results. Maybe it’s time to switch to X
