  • Let’s get one thing straight.. FCP is a tool for editors just like any word processing program is to a writer. I don’t even think the idiots at Microsoft would be so dumb as to release a new version that made all of your previously saved manuscripts UNOPENABLE. That is just plain stupid and of course it goes downhill from there. It is plain arrogance and ignorance on Apple’s part. If they want to capture the Prosumer market then release the damn thing at CES not at the National Association of Broadcasters. Are they simply stupid or psychophrenic … wanting to appeal to a mass audience but releasing to the pros at NAB. People give Apple way to much credit… They are a fat and bloated institution that acts like they are hip and modern but are the General Motors of the computer industry.. All the computer parts are made for Apple by the real heavy weights and Apple is essentially a design, marketing and assembly company. Now they can add top heavy and meandering to a descriptive list. They buy Shake and kill it… They buy Color and then kill it… They never seem to finish what they start. SO I have little hope that Apple will ever develop completely.
If I were a betting man I would say Apple will never gain back the pro market now or EVER… There is just too much ill will and bad blood between the pros and Apple now. AVID and Adobe will clean up.
As for the comments from the prosumer that wrote that Adobe AE was just a toy they really show their lack of knowledge because truly AE and most Adobe products were truly pro and had great features and performance .. Render times were long because of the hardware not the software. The quality of what was rendered was truly great.
ALL HAIL ADOBE AND AVID .. APPLE YOU ARE DEAD TO ME !!!

Seriously Jerry you should give your head a shake YOU are not the only experienced person here … writing to people like you know more than anyone and have done more.. You are dancing around the issue here and you know it. Politics might be your future endeavour. Call a spade a spade Jerry… this is not a useable piece of software and not worthy of Pro application designation.
David LaRonde is 100% correct as are the others who are shocked at Apple’s utter arrogance.. Yes you need to migrate to 64 bit but not leave your users stranded and having to work in a bubble and throw out all industry standard
Apple did not INVENT editing Jerry and as you likely know Apple did not even write the original code for FCP, it was Macromedia. They bought Color, Shake and Logic and have canabalized those applications or threw them out.. Face it Jerry Apple is a Marketing company with consumer software division

You need an attitude adjustment Jerry and a big one indeed !!!
There are companies that have built entire facilities around FCP and now Apple has summarily trashed all support and not allowed any user to import its own previous projects into this grand debacle.
It is entirely understandable that they are pissed off and that does not make them immature or unprofessional.
What is so elegant and ground breaking about FCP X.. a magnetic timeline… linking video to another piece of video… After 25 years I can safely say I have never had any sync issues and those who expect a piece of software to keep everything in sync are deluding themselves.
Calling the same old things by different names does not make this software elegant or sophisticated or ground breaking… it just makes it a dupe .

I guess ALL the pros are wrong Jerry but you are absolutely correct. We are reacting in the same way any professional would react.. hardly childish .

    Hi Hirsch

I have not heard back from you folks and as I mentioned I did forward all the specifics to another person from BM as posted earlier.

Can you help resolve this issue?

    Hi Hirsch

I have been in contact with Marcelino Medina

Surely you missed a career in politics and somantics. If it can be used in any slot there is the implied understanding that it will therefore WORK in every slot especially in such simple MB as the one I used.

Keep in mind… it is working… it is not working perfectly … it is flickering like interlace flicker.
According to your specs the card will work with
“PCI Express 1 lane, compatible with 1, 4, 8 and 16 PCIe slots.” Can’t read much into that spec.
    ALL slots.
I am aware that YOUR card is working but we are trying to get MY card to work and your tech team have done little. The fact it works on your system does not prove it is a flawless card but that you had the time to come up with the right formula. Trouble is, I don’t have the time and that is why I bought the system that was approved by BM.

This is a very very simple setup… Install card into ANY slot that it will fit in, large or small, according to BM website. Install the latest drivers and then run video into it. Prior to any card installation you need to upgrade the MB bios and if necessary the driver for the video card. Update the OS , in this case windows 7 Pro. Then install the BM card and driver. Pretty basic… The fact that it launches and draws video through but is flickery is likely a BM card issue. How to check you ask????? Ohhh buy another computer and put the BM card in and see if it works and if it doesn’t well then it is the ultrascope card. Or possibly BM missed something ….. like a proper driver

To follow up…. You must realize that the system I used was approved by BM long long long before I purchased it. The card and motherboard and chipset and OS were all given the OK by your guys.
Yet I still seem to be stumbling around. From what I can tell, my system allows the application to launch and put video through but it is buggy. My guess is that the card is wiggy . I can only check it on my mac pros first to see if it works on those at all.

ALl in all a less than pleasant experience with such a simple little card. The list of cards you suggest that work with ultrascope go from the bottom of the barrel to the ultra expensive so one would naturally assume that pretty much anything should work. Unfortunately not the case. I think the BM needs to update its driver for this product just to keep folks happy.

    Thanks BOB

As usual you dive right off the deep end. Truth is … I passed ALL the specs onto BM way before I bought a single piece of PC equipment. As I am not a pc guy I thought they would know best . Got a specific suggestion and approval from Kris at BM regarding the motherboard, processor and he had emailed me the graphics card that I purchased from a local retailer. Truth is, this is a pretty low tech engineering feat from my perspective having build quite a few suites over the past 25 years.
Bottom line… I ran all this by BM before hand and got the thumbs up HOWEVER it still is acting up.
Didn’t know about the B&H full kit.. That would have been much simpler as I don’t really have the time to post and email , install and uninstall just to get a scope to work
SO thanks for your input.. I guess
