It’s made by Grass Valley/Canopus, and usually a cheap version comes with their hardware. The local news station in my area uses Edius for everything, and some guys I’ve worked with have good things to say about it.
Pretty sure they’ve got a free trial version on their website; go check it out and see what you think.

My trusty G5 Powermac has an AWFUL sounding audio output. It’s always had a constant buzz/squeaky sound that varies under processor load and was an issue with many of those computers. Your Mac Pro is probably fine, but you should listen closely and make sure.
I’ve been using a Presonus Firepod Firewire audio interface for several years (now they call it the FP10). It’s very affordable and has been very near flawless for my audio I/O needs. Eight XLR preamp inputs, so great for cutting VOs or even recording a band demo.

Here’s a plan…
Keep the EX1 and buy a Canon T2i (they’re so cheap that it’s hard to justify NOT buying one). Use each camera when it’s appropriate. Since you have a Letus, I assume you own/have access to good lenses that might work with the T2i. Then, you’ve got the best of both worlds (to a degree) and very little cost involved.

That’s a neat little adapter you’ve got, but I’m pretty certain it will only work with Panasonics. That fancy 8-pin jack appears to be Panasonic-specific and I think adapting 8-pin proprietary connections to a 1/8″ stereo jack would be incredibly involved, if not impossible.
You need an adapter such as the Beachtek or Juicedlink XLR adapters, though you’ll still have the camera’s automatic gain control to deal with. Otherwise, get a separate recorder such as the Zoom H4n for great quality dual-system sound, which is what I do for my Canon T2i.

Here’s some ideas…
Borrow/rent or somehow obtain three wireless lapel mics and get your three people on the stage to wear them; keep the receivers hooked up to your two roaming DVX cameras. Use the audio board feed hooked to the wide shot camera as you planned for a backup only. Edit and mix together in post. Otherwise, you’re at the mercy of the sound man as mentioned.

I’m using Transcend 16GB Class 6 with flawless results. Tried Kingston Class 4 and it failed immediately. If you’ve got the bucks, go with Class 10 and you won’t have to worry, but high-quality class 6 will work as well.

Looks like it might be a piece of dust/dirt on the rear element of the lens or on the sensor. Way too big to be a dead pixel.

I sold a stack of Sennheiser G2s on eBay with full disclosure that they were in the outlawed frequency range. They sold very well for way more $$ than expected.
I’ve got no idea what the buyers are doing with them; maybe shipping overseas?

I just use the digital magnification buttons all the time; you get fast with it after a bit of practice. For follow focus, I just eyeball it but lately I’m just shooting talking heads so it’s a non-issue.
