    and Final Cut ver. 4.5…

apparently, you need to do a complete uninstall of FCS and QuickTime, then reinstall FCS with QuickTime 7.2, but not 7.3.

I’m not sure if you have to uninstall your OS and reinstall it, but maybe someone who’s overcome this hurdle can illuminate better than I. I’m in the middle of trying to navigate my way back to a functioning computer. I’m probably going to just upgrade to Leopard and Studio 2 so that QT 7.3 plays nice with everybody.

i have similar issues with 4.5…5 minutes in to capture and it fills up my scratchdisk…

i have several posts about this, and am still trying things out. I want to try to uninstall 4.5 completely, but can’t find anywhere on the web with instructions on how to do it. Apple Support only has instructions on how to uninstall Studio 2.

anybody know where to find instructions on uninstalling Final Cut Studio 4.5 and all it’s components?

    thanks in advance,

i am capturing it as one file. i haven’t changed my settings in forever. No need to. Been shooting with the same camera since 2004 (panasonic dvx-100A), and the only new variable introduced this time around was a DV tape shot in someone else’s camera. However, I have used tapes from this other camera before with no problems.

the file captures at a ridiculous size (300 gigs for five minutes) and freezes up my computer when the scratch disk suddenly finds itself stuffed.

it’s not trying to create an AVI, it’s just a .mov with a funky av extension…

i have my settings on NTSC DV, very basic.

it’s an internal drive that I put in the b-bay of my G5. It’s a 500 gig seagate, and it was formated by the Mac it is inside of.

I’ve discovered the reason that capture is freezing up…it’s because the .mov being created during capture is HUGE. a five minute clip is almost 300 gigs. This is SD footage i’m capturing, and i haven’t changed my settings for anything in months if not years.

I haven’t done anything different, yet suddenly my capture is creating some weird .mov-AV file or some such nonsense that is so large it eats up all my storage and then freezes the computer so bad that i have to hard reboot.

  • I just didn’t know if I would sacrifice greatly if i purchased something other than a mac monitor.

    thanks!
