Im going to try and move the footage onto different drives. Theres about 1.5TB so its going to take a while.

Is there anything i need to do with FCP. I would hate to undo everything i have done for the last week.

    THanks again

    Thanks guys

No raid setup on this mac and there is no card iether. I am actually borrowing this mac and would hate to mess with my friends machine.

I set the RT settings real low but that did not have an effect on playback.

I thought as much, with the location of the files on the drive, hence why i moved it to another, but the problem continued.

Can i down rez the files and work with low rez proxies, or am i wasting my time?

I will try and set up the angles on different drives, as they are currently grouped into the time of day the footage was shot.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I have not got my head fully around what bogiesan has just recommeneded. I have the weekend to think about it.

I meant to also write that the 33 hours are from 33 tapes, so stopping recording to change tapes was quite frequent.
    Thanks guys

    Hi Ian

Thanks for your post. Yeah…im pulling my hair out at the moment, I have multiclip sequenced my Cam 1’s and they all line up in chronlogical order. Same with Cams 2 and 3. But i just can’t figure out how to now multicam the 3 Multiclip Sequences…………..

For the sake of the post, i only listed a small example of the what i am up against. I have over 33 hours of HDV, with plenty of dropouts and subsequently plenty of clips.

So your best advice would be to render out the MultiClip sequence for each of the cams. Could i do a QT ref file? and does it keep timecode?

Any other suggestions would be extremely welcome.

    Thanks alot

    July 8, 2009 at 7:28 am in reply to: 1080i or 720p?

I have just read a few older posts, suggesting to take the 1080i footage into a 720P timeline, edit as normal and apply a deinterlace filter. If thats the case, great as this would have the added advantage of letting me reframe some shots.

Could I apply the Natress deinterlace filter and do the standards convert at the same time to NTSC 23.98 and to NTSC 720P?

I think my heads ready to explode.
    Thanks again.

And just to add, if i was to purchase the Fields kit from RevisionFX rather than using compressor to downconvert to 720P, would this be better?

    Thanks

  • I forgot to mention that i will be shooting with 3 HDV canon A1’s. I don’t own any lenses and they will need to be rented. So any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

  • Thanks again Tom.

It looks like the camera’s which i will be hiring, will be the Standard A1’s here in Australia without the upgrade. So i am going to have to shoot in 25P 🙁

Thanks for the link. Will check it out when i get a spare minute.

  • Thanks Michael. My clients project would not warrant Blue Ray. Its an instructional Sports DVD (3 disc). And the price of having 2 sets (PAL and NTSC)of Discs is something that they are not prepared to outlay.

I am going to look into if the A1’s shoot in NTSC, and if so, possibly shoot in that format.

    Thanks again

  • Thank you for all your useful information.

Just to clarify a little further. The reason i am shooting in PAL is because i’m in a PAL country and the final output is for a world wide delivery on DVD. I was told that all PAL DVD players can play NTSC discs, but many NTSC players, can not play PAL DVDs.

It has been suggested to shoot at 24P. I still don’t understand why as it will need to be compressed for DVD anyway to NTSC. Right?

Bourke’s suggestion of a camera flash is a great one. I understand i will need to keep the cameras rolling and look forward to reading more tips on his site.

My time frame for completion is quite long (2 months) so leaving my macbook pro on over night, converting to NTSC, is not really a problem and is something i imagined i would have to do, rather than spend lots of money on a realtime standards code.

Thank you Walter for the suggestion of using an eSata card. While it may cost a bit more money, i’m guessing it could possibly save me alot of headaches during my edit.

Tom, thanks for your ideas and advice too, but can you explain why i should conform to 24P after editing in 25 and are you saying by compressing my edit to ProRes, i will gain image quality? Your proposal sounds logical but I want this best possible quality i can get and if you thnkg i can get that by capturing HDV ProRes then this is what i will have to do. Will a new 15″ Macbook Pro handle it. Please keep in my mind that most of the time it will be 1 video track plus lower third, but at times i may have 2 tracks (PIP) and an overall color grade.

Thanks guys. I really do appreciate all of your advice.
