October 31, 2009 at 9:37 am in reply to: DDR/tapeless playback options for broadcast?hi jason.
at first we had a little party when our last doremi left the facility we ritually burned the machine on the barbecue. i guess this says enough about what we think about doremi 😉
as bob suggested the ki-pro is a very nice product.
if you are thinking about a turbo please have a look at the new T2 of grassvalley. same type of machine but al the things you miss on a turbo are added like HD-SDI ,embedded audio ,aes/ebu
price starting at $12,980 <== which is nice but not for your aplication i think. https://professional.grassvalley.com/products/t2/if you only need SD my old time favorite is the Rosendahl-bonsaidrive
we own these things and they have never failed.
Simple GUI and amazing option’s for sync playback whit more machine’s. like lipsync correction ability to quickly stripe new TC under a track etc. price about $2500 warning this is without SDI and LANboard.

October 28, 2009 at 10:33 pm in reply to: Flash fields from OB to FCP via Deckline HD Extreme 2i guess this has nothing to do with settings of your card.
in broadcast mixer’s you can set where the switcher has to cut after field 1, after field 2 or after the nearest field. the last setting can give the problems you sketched. this can give the problem that in some cut’s a frame can have content in field 1 of camera1 and in field 2 of camera 2. if you use 1 of the first 2 setting the problom will be there on every cut or will be solved.

hi as promised some background info.
the relation between the line’s in 1080i@25Fps vs 625i@25Fps
is a ratio of 9:5. So every 9th line the rising edge of a trilevelsync will coincide with the falling edge of the SD bilevel sync.
This gives a vertical relation that line 1 of a HDfield 1 will coincide with the first line of a SD field every 625fields.for 720P@50Fps this relationship with SD is a ratio of 12:5 i never calculated the vertical relation ship. but i’m sure there will be a relation 😉
that’s a thing for a rainy sunday afternoon instead of sudoko ;-).if bob say’s a cheapo kramer VDA will do the job i believe him. It is just that VDA’s often play a double role in our installation giving me the need for high quality DA’s. Even an old archive tape has to be treated with respect and these will often be CVBS and DA’ted with the same VDA. all though i never had problems please be aware of clamping CVBS DA’s if they clamp on the frontporch they maybe can give problems with tri-level.

oh and what i also forgot to say.
your way of working is OK yes it maybe will work with only BB.
but you are used to do it this way which is completly good.
if it works don’t fix it 😉greet

hi piers
there is a simple relation between the line frequentie of
1080@25i and 625@25i.(i don’t have my papers with me so i will give this tommorow if i dont forget ;-0) so a good SPG should be able to crosslock in the vertical domain.
So the first HDline starts at the same time as the first SDline. Hlock is not possible since the line time of a HD line is different to the line time of a SDline.but still can have a relation ?!?!?!
for 720P i have to look.
again i will comeback with you later.
locking to BB to dub from HDCAM to DIGI should not give any problems.about the distrubution
a good quality VDA like the CDV07 of AXON for instance can distrubute Tri-levelsync.greet

thnxs bob.
normaly i hate it when sales people turn up uninvited.
but the guy showing me this thing on a monday morning gave me a smile on my face 😉 even more when he said keep it this week and play around with it in your spare time. post it back with your findings.I guess when people do this they know what they sell is good or has potential.
i know our company prices and you will not get a “tektronix” for these prices with the same functionality.
off coarse i did found some con’s but maybe these are already corrected. is is constantly in development.(which is good)
one is you can’t genlock the waveform readout to the ref input so checking timing is not possible.(but do you really need that with a handheld device??) the other one i already stated in my first post.
but that’s out of the manual.really great thing for a great price

hi
well without taking about all the other aspect of a camera that have influence on picture quality.
mister nyquist has proved that oversampling (what using a HD camera in a SD enviroment actually is) increase quality.
a HD camera will perform better in a SD enviroment due to the aperture effect.of coarse this does not take bad downscaling in account.
cheap camera’s will downscale badly and will have bad detail proccessing
on there downscaled output’s.so let your NLE do the hardwork since it has time for it.

hey
they want uninterupted VITC timecode for the complete clip
on line 19&21you have programs that can generate this for you.
you will find them somewhere down the cow or google.
i did earlier but since i don’t need it i forgot the name of the program.another trick is(if your card support 608lines capture) to stripe a tape with the right TC black and VITC and ingest this. then key/superimpose this clip on your timeline. but be aware to do this right otherwise the action is useless. (waveform with line selection and a VITCreader would be a great help).
yes you have to make the slate but this can be very simple.
you only have to know what data has to be on the slate it can be a white text on a black background same for the countdown.greet
