    hi there

maybe there is a conversion from dropframe to non dropframe when you convert. or the other way around.

    luckly i’m on pal 😉

    hi there

indeed it is something you have to live with.

    the effect is called alliasing.
in the end all sampling systems (and that includes video camera’s)
will be faced with this issue.
but one camera is better filtered then the other.
but all camera’s have to cope with this phenomena.

in the 5D the filtering and scaling is done in a very simple way.
and next to that the sensor has a very high resolution so can create
high frequencies on the scaler input which can result in extreme alliasing.

next to that the 5D has a bayersensor the red green and blue pixels do not allign spatially like in a standard 3chip camera.
which makes that the moire pattern produced by aliasing will be on different places. which give funny colors on places where there is actually no color.

again this isn’t a problem of the 5D only

    is this a big problem

depends on your genre and or shooting environments.
if you know what causes this you can anticipate on it.
in a industrial enviroment where straightline’s and repeating
elements are common you will be faced whit this more often
    then when you shoot wildlife.

March 28, 2011 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Sync two cameras

    hi there

your camera’s can not be synchronized frame accurate perfectly .
this because of the lack of a Genlock input.
in your scenario the best way to syncronize in the editing process
is with the use off the good old clapperboard.
create a silence on the set and clap it.
while editing find the clap in the audiowaveform and synchronize your tracks.

or find a timecode generator record it on both camera’s on a spare audio track ??? and use videotoolshed FCPauxTCreader

whitebalance should be performed on the same target but also on the same time. especially in a outdoor situation !!!
all color difference should be minimum.
difference still can be there due to flare.

    whoops

    forgot question #2
    i guess i need 2 frame’s DFR-8321 to use 20cards
is it true that for al these cards the backplane need
    the space from 2 cards??
    i have from Blackmagic
    3 Embedders
    6 DAC

    from cobalt
3 9003 dual SDI ditrubution amplifiers
    8 9232 analog distrubution amplifiers

    hi
    just one little question left
do i need the controlcard for dashboard or can everything bedone
    with the dip switches.

in my design only blackmagic cards and digital and analog DA’s are
    in use

i hope not because the rack is full now 😉

    indeed

    go analog on the end.
a dac box always give you a signal.
no fuzz with the nightmare called EDID&HDCP
its SD anyway so the projector must scale.

March 17, 2011 at 10:40 pm in reply to: AJA LHe Card – Audio Problems / Overmodulation

    hmmm

i’m always a bit surprised that there are
audio mixers (or should i say cigar boxes with XLR’s)in a NLE system that cost a 1/10th of the monitors in the end and the system in front.
not even talking about the deck’s they are feeding in a worst case scenario.
some systems are so out of balance.
for monitoring ok but in the production chain ????

if i compare to the videochain you see how crazy we do with audio all the time.
its like putting a grade 1 video monitor behind a panasonic MX50mixer
    in composite ????
and not understanding why it looks soo fuzzy.

sorry don’t want to offend people
but i see this all the time.

    meters understanding spec’s
    helps

    hi bob/brad

a lot of answers i wanted to hear.
i guess it will be blackmagic then.
it is almost ridiculous how cheap these cards are
now i have to google for some nice HD-SDI DA cards
and indeed a analog DA for REF
in the opengear style (any suggestions).

    thanks a lot
