May 12, 2017 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Better to adjust clip gain or clip volume during FCPX edit?( if ultimately mixing audio in Audition (or other DAW)?Thanks for the tips Chris. I’m going to be doing all the serious audio work, ,panning, EQ, reverb etc. in Audition so I’ll definitely be using one of the software package plugins you recommended. But first I’ll be doing the film editing in FCPX, so I wanted to make some basic volume adjustments in FCPX ( such as increase clip volume, use keyframes to increase or decrease parts of a clip’s volume, and fades). I was hoping that after I do the FCPX edit, I could bring the audio into Audition, but not have to redo all those volume adjustments, keyframes, and fades all over again in Audition.
So my questions would be – 1) is there any audio quality/fidelity lost by adjusting volume in FCPX and then transferring to Audition?, 2) in FCPX, is it better to use the clip volume adjustment or audio gain effect, if I want to make sure quality/fidelity is fully maintained? , and 3) do all my volume adjustments, keyframes, and fades transfer over to Audition properly using X2PRO or X2CC type of plugin?
Thanks,

May 9, 2017 at 2:42 pm in reply to: Limit on length of filenames? (number of characters)Yeah, that’s just about how I’m proceeding. Have about 1000 clips broken into 20 keyword collections, and using notes for detailed descriptions that are searchable. Works very well to find what I need quickly. I have some keyword collections I no longer need, but wondered if deleting a keyword collection deletes all the clips in that keyword collection, or just removes that keyword from browser?
Thanks.

May 8, 2017 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Limit on length of filenames? (number of characters)Hey Mark,
I had clips around 10-25 characters and they were in folders and subfolders with long folder names. I had heard that can count towards filename length and hearing about issues with more than 32 character filename length, thought I’d see what people are experiencing. Decided to use small names and single file folder.
Hey Helgi,
Yeah with Keyword collections and notes, I should be all set.
Thanks everyone.

May 2, 2017 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Best way to contact Apple to request features and fix issues? Thanks Doug. Will send the feedback to Apple today. Yeah the blade tool is an option, but if I end up using 3 or 4 keyframes in a clip, my clip might be cut up into multiple smaller clips, and since I’m sending to Audition, and then to Resolve, I didn’t want my clips cut up like that.
Thanks,

May 2, 2017 at 3:47 pm in reply to: How to get Audio Keyframes Linear as Opposed to S-curveA little more digging has revealed what seems to be an odd choice by Apple. They say on one of their support pages that “You can change the curve shape between keyframes for video effects only. For audio volume only, you can change the curve shape for fades created using fade handles, but not keyframes”. (See very end of this doc/link https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12629?locale=en_US).

May 2, 2017 at 3:26 pm in reply to: How to get Audio Keyframes Linear as Opposed to S-curveThe control click works well for the the fade handle keyframe that is at the very beginning and end of the clips, but when I add any keyframe in between them, hitting control click just pulls up option to “delete keyframe”. Any idea of how to work with audio keyframes I add in the middle of the clip to make them linear?
