Why not a fan of DVCPRO HD? I would like good quality, but ultimate destination for the spots is SD Beta. And yes, I will try to upload some “jumpy video”. Try to imagine playing frames 1-30 and it skips frames 12-16 and 26-29.

I am getting the same crappy real time issues running Pro res 720 59.94 HQ…and no one can tell me why. Now that I have captured all of my footgae in this format, I am stuck.

That is interesting Jim. I was using compressor on an 8-core Mac Pro! I will try it again on Monday using quicktime conversion…I don’t like compressor much anyway.

    Thanks!

    Thanks, Wayne

Has anyone heard about pro res being sluggish for transcoding? Does 1 hour per 4 minutes sound normal for ANY codec going to H.264?

Shane, have you actually used Raylight to import an MXF to a FCP timeline? I downloaded a demo version of this program it is seems kind of funky, and I couldn’t figure out the workflow to make this happen. Is it pretty simple?

That is an interesting technique…does it affect the entire shot?

I have two 24s and they are excellent. I have worked with apples and dells and do not notice a difference.

  • Shane,

Do you have any experience with that Panasonic card reader ( AJ-PCD20 ) that holds five P2’s? On B&H’s website they are claiming that you can import all five cards as one when this $1900 device is used.

    Any thoughts?

  • Shane,

I am trying to adopt your work flow as much as possible. When you are transferring your cards to your P2 store, and then to your external drive, what is the purpose of this step? Say besides dumping in the field, isn’t it one less step to use the P2 Store as a card transfer device to your hard drive?

Besides that question, is it possible to load for example 2 or 3 cards into a P2 Store and have my computer read it as a single CONTENTS and lastclip.txt folder? Unfortunately, my shooter is using a bunch of 4gb cards and the amount of P2 backup folders in my archive is getting ridiculous. I would like to keep a single CONTENTS folder per project, not per card. What can I do?

Shane, what exactly is Raylight and where can I get it?
