Using Dell Monitor with Mac Pro
Posted by Catherine Ceigersmidt on May 30, 2007 at 4:11 pmHi all,
When I was originally shopping around for a great computer monitor to pair with a quad-core Mac Pro for FCP editing, someone in the Creative Cow forum suggested that I go with the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP, as opposed to one of the Apple Cinema Displays. I’m ready to make a purchase now, but I noticed in a CNET review that the Dell monitor is being marketed as only PC compatible. Is this a sales gimmick or is there really an incompatibility issue with Macs?

May 30, 2007 at 4:16 pmNope…they are Mac compatible. I have two of the previous version, the 2405s and they are GREAT. Much better picture than the Apple, IMHO. Blacks are black. The Apples tend to be a bit greener…

May 30, 2007 at 6:36 pmI just ordered mine from Eagle Computer for $615.93, with free shipping. Just make sure you put in the promo code they specify to get the free ship option for ground.

May 30, 2007 at 6:44 pmI forgot to mention that I chose Eagle b/c they can ship the Dell 24″ in 1 business day, as opposed to Dell, which told me I would have to wait 3 weeks until shipment.

October 9, 2007 at 4:32 pmI just bought the 2407 and i can’t get the dvi cable into my mac G5 because the DVI ports don’t match.
I’m using the vga connection now with a dvi adapter, but I would like to use the DVI cable if possible.
Am i doing something wrong or do I need a new cable?
Thanks for any help.

October 9, 2007 at 5:11 pmhello,
Not sure about the G5, as I have a Mac Pro. Did you try to attach the dvi and it physically wouldn’t fit? I noticed that the Dell dvi connector doesn’t have as many pins as the female Apple dvi port, but I hooked mine up without a problem.
