Well, the good news is that the issue seems to be some kind of playback problem. When I played the file back on another computer entirely, it sounded fine. So, there is something about the app that I used to check my rendered MP4 that is not working as expected, meaning this isn’t a Vegas problem.

More good news, when I checked my audio device settings I noticed that Vegas was not using the GPU to render. I assumed it would be on by default, and never looked… I flipped that on, and rendering is about 10x faster now.

My main problem with Vegas is that I use it about once every year or two, so every time I use it, I am starting from scratch! ????

Though, there is still one related issue I would like to resolve. When I was trying to solve this issue in Vegas, I wanted to look at the audio in SoundForge–there is a Vegas menu selection just for that. Unfortunately, according to the error message I got, SoundForge 10 cannot read AC-3 files, it seems.

Is this expected, or is it because my ancient camera produces some kind of non-compliant AC-3 file? Does Vegas 15 come with a newer version of SoundForge that understands 5.1 AC-3 files?

Below is the complete MediaInfo output for my source file. (Technically it isn’t a raw source file–Vegas saw my camera and imported the clip, stitching together 2 MTS files from the camera filesystem.)

    Thanks again!
