What speed are you burning your DVDs at?

What you describe sounds to me like you’ve burned at too high a speed setting. I never burn at more than 4x and use Tayo Yuden disks with designated 8x max speed.
If your burner allows, burn your master even at 2x.
Yes, takes longer but what the heck, saves you all that aggravation later.

The slower you burn, the better your results, particularly
    on older players.
    Hope that helps

    Joshua,
    thanks for your reply.
I will try that out as soon as I’m back in the edit bay.

  • As far as the up/down conversion of SD clips are concerned, I took the following approach.
Edited everything in an HD timeline, imported the SD clips but treated them just as place holders.
Then downconverted to SD, put the program in an SD time line and then replaced the “place holder clips” with their original SD source clips.
That way I avoided the up/down conversion problem. since you only have 15% SD, it shouldn’t be that much extra work.
    Just my two cents.

You are going to run into this issue even with a “real HD” codec like Panasonic’s DVCPRO HD. I’ve just been through it. Other computers need FCP installed to be able to play footage output as DVCPRO HD. If they don’t have it, then you will see exactly the same error message in your Quicktime player that you described in your first post. If it is just for viewing purposes, follow the good advice of some of the others in this thread.

    Hi,
I don’t know anything about Decklink cards but if you want a little insight into Intensity, check out my thread from March 21 2009.

Had to restart computer because of some updates, after that again no picture on external monitor.
No amount of fiddling with the settings produced any results.
Turned off the computer in disgust, came back the next morning and everything worked fine.

Go figure! I find this product very unreliable.

Sent an email to blackmagic tech support but got no response.

I was able to get it to work by going into my system preferences (Mac only) and toggle the “select output settings” on and off again.
Didn’t make sense to me but then it worked.

    Thanks,
it was probably me who was mistaken. I think what he meant was that he can also work with quicktime files, but obviously not the ones I gave him.

    Thanks for your help

    Shane thanks,
I have two backups of the P2 card file structure, so no problem there.
Since I’m on the mac, I don’t have a hard drive that is formatted for windows and Mac, which is what I would need to give the footage to the Avid editor. I hear that fat32 has a file size limit of 4 gigs. How will that effect my P2 files?
Just out of curiosity, the Avid editor tells me that he his files also receive a quicktime wrapper after transfer, why can’t he read mine?

    Thanks for your help

  • In you final cut capture window, set the capture presets to non-controllable device. You will loose timecode but that may not be a problem when webstreaming. You don’t even have to press play on the camera.
