I figured that if you had replied to this one, I could have caught the universe in a causality destroying time loop… but no such luck…. https://forums.creativecow.net/docs/forums/post.php?forumid=2&postid=996498&univpostid=996498&pview=t

I gave it the ol college try, though

Ha.. No, man, but thanks.. I tried to delete my post but couldn’t find the delete button on the Cow page…

  • WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?! Thank you so much, mane, this is what Im talkin bout.

  • Hey that is great, thank you. I DON’T really understand blender, yet. I use it to render my mp4 files from the jpg or png sequences i render from AE. But I will learn more. I actually went back to the Mocha route and just tried to do the orientation matching by hand. Came out pretty solid. Almost no drift. But almost doesn’t really count so I am game for anything that will work. Much appreciated. That is how I will spend the rest of my 4th.. On blender.. Never thought I would say that.

  • Thanks, I will check the tut out now. It is only one little extra d, I don’t know what the problem is, lol

  • Well dernit… Thank you for confirming my suspicion that there is a big problem with the footage. I should be clear and say that that IS the original footage. White screen, not green. just meant that there is nothing for the tracker to pick up on.

I will try Mary but all of the tuts I have seen her do have to do with corner pinning 2d objects, I haven’t found any regarding 3d pinning. About taking it into the 3d app, I am using e3d, so no option there, right? I only tried the export to 3dsmax cause it was so bad in AE.

Thanks for the help, i will check out the links now.

Dropping them into a single comp definitely WILL cause a problem, not sure what he means by that.. Best bet is to create separate comps for the different frame rates and then inside the 29.97 comp, go to comp settings and click the tab up top and you will see an option to keep frame rate when nested.

It has been my experience that it will “only” work if you are trying to nest a higher frame rate comp into a lower one… Telling a 24fps comp to keep rate when nested, and then putting into 29.97 comp, for me, has never worked

Definitely RAM. I upgraded from 8 to 16 about a month ago. HUGE difference

  • Hi, Ross, thanks again. Okay, so the “roto track”, that is the actual search area for the planar track AND, also, separately, the shape layer track/mask, is that right? Really is an odd way to design it, I think.

Also, the “roto track”, that search area created by the splines is also, along with the planar box, tracking a plane? Again, seems very odd when that is the data used to create a shape or mask in AE. If that plane is in any way being affected by the planar box.

Ill try again as you suggest but if these are the cases, it may be that there is a better solution for tracking organic limbs, than AE, for me, at least. Maybe when and/or if a tut specifically focused on this comes out it will clear things up for me.

  • Hi, Ross, thanks for the reply and tips, I will try what you suggesst. A few things, first. I just realized that you may be right about the plane. When rotoing the thigh, I include half of the torso/groin area. Part of that will not move with the rest of the thigh… But I also think you are right and that the planar track has relevance…

I think it is weird and awkward to have to oonsider and configure and base your work and track on an object(planar trac)that has no relevance in the final output, which is a shape layer or mask.

Will manual tracking make the shape track completely free of the planar track’s influence? Mary Poplin has a vid where she rotos a female boxer. She skips past the “30 minutes” it took her to roto the whole thing, limb by limb in order to “save ux the bore”. I would like to see that “bore” or something similar. That is the only organic “action” sequence footage that I have seen a Mocha roto tut of, and it skips the meat of it. Is she using the planar track for each limb? I cannot even visualize, in my head, how that works when each limb is shifting planes all the time

    Thanks for tips

    W

The shape track abilities are fantastic, though, when they
