January 24, 2010 at 11:41 pm in reply to: med quality vs most quality by 170 and 200Interesting question. I’ve wondered about this too. Very often I shoot 1080/24P with my HPX170. Because of the 60i stream I put together a setting in Compressor to remove the 3:2 pulldown and in the process, convert to ProRes 422 HQ. Does converting to a ProRes codec effect quality? Converting to ProRes technically does change the native resolution to 1920×1080 right? (DVCPRO HD I know is subsampled). Is my conversion to ProRes helping me out or would I be better off leaving it as DVCPRO HD?

November 21, 2009 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Best Settings For a Narrative with the HPX170Those suggestions sound really interesting. Dan, what is Magic Bullet? I’m fairly surprised that I’ve never heard of it before. I’m pretty good with Final Cut’s Tri Color corrector and I’m trying to teach myself Color. By the time I am shooting (early January) I should be reasonably proficient.
Thanks again!

November 6, 2009 at 7:46 am in reply to: What am I missing on the pricing for a Panasonic AG-HVX200A?You won’t be disappointed. I got a 170 in January and I could not be happier. The warranty on the camera is also fantastic. don’t forget to register!!! 5 year warranty from panasonic! that’s a beautiful thing! Also, check out the scene files on the panasonic p2 website (you get there through the business section on the panasonic site). There are really cool ones that are definitely worth experimenting with! Treat it well and it will do the same for you!

I want to thank you for your response. I know that reasonably upset people are not easy to deal with and I just want to reiterate that I appreciate your answers.

October 1, 2009 at 7:48 pm in reply to: Any Word on Duel-Adapter/Snow Leopard Compatibility?Yup…
I spoke to Duel last night and apparently they can’t write a driver for Snow Leopard because Apple won’t give them the information and hasn’t since the original Leopard came out. Apparently Apple wrote it for Leopard and doesn’t want to do it again for Snow Leopard.
To say that this is a mere inconvenience to all P2 and Mac users is a severe understatement. It feels as if Apple is turning its back to a major professional market that has relied on and supported them as much as every other professional market does. For FCP laptop users, Apple knows that we have no alternatives. Besides of course, using a Duel with Avid on a PC. And to take that route, we may not even need a Duel.
I will continue my relentless search for a working alternative. If I find anything I will of course share the wealth.
End of rant.

Okay so I went ahead and gave it a go. The new footage looks to be perfect and it did not replace the old clip so I’m going to go ahead and try the rest of them. Thanks for all of your help!

No, the file does not have a warning sign on it. Should I just go ahead and submit and see how it goes?

Great catch! and i also just found something interesting. in the bottom left of the main window, it said 1 Job, 2 Targets. When I deleted the destination it said that it was back to 1 Job, 1 Target and will now let me submit the clip. However, will that mean that I will replace my originals? I have all of the footage backed up on multiple drives so I would be able to transfer it over again if I needed to. What do you think?
I should just be able to reconnect back to the new media that compressor makes without a problem right?
