  • I have only found that I get the error when the card has been renamed or I have just deleted the BVAP folder and re inserted the card.
I now only use the cameras format option and have not had the error since.
I can’t explain it yet, I’ve only had the camera short while. The problem was a bit inconsistent to say with any certainty that this is the problem, but it might resolve some issues.

  • Just curious, did anyone name the cards via a computer? ie Card 01 or something.

I thought the 300 recorded all the HD 100 codecs and SD codecs too, not just AVC intra?
It would be a good master camera to your 200.

    Yep, all that.
I’ve been checking on some other sites and the suggestion is that having Perian loaded can cause issue with some P2 applications. Has anyone experienced this?

    Thanks Jeremy,
I tried that and got an application conflict error and a file in/out error.
Is there a known software conflict? I might have something loaded that’s causing an issue.
    Matthew.

  • Hi Jeremy.
Is there meant to be audio with the streaming content?
I got the gist of it though, looks cool.

You’re not just feeling the tape servos spinning when you are in tape mode?
    Matthew.

  • Firstly, using a laptop screen for monitoring is not a good idea. Colours and Gamma are represented incorrectly, what you think is a light orange colour can turn out to be dark red, as an example.
You will first have to spend some time calibrating the screen to represent HD TV colour space, tonal quality, and base black levels. This will take time, and preferably someone who knows what they are doing.

    Now for the help.
Does the camera have a firewire output on it?(You may need to set some menu options in the camera to enable the firewire port to activate whilst in camera mode.)

If so, then there are several solutions.
If you have Final Cut Pro then you can connect the camera to the laptop via a firewire cable and use the log and capture window to view (having set the capture settings to firewire). Initially the window will be small, but if you scale the canvas window to full screen size then turn on “log and capture” the viewing window will be larger, not full screen though.
Another option is if you have Adobe CS4, it has a program called “On Location”. Connect the camera via firewire and use this program for monitoring.
And lastly, there are some on line programs such as “Monitor Magic” and “Scope Box” that provide the same service, but you will have to pay to get them.

On some shoots I run the left side arm of the tripod forewards and a bit to the left/below the lens and mount my Panasonic 9″ on that so the monitor sits level with the mattebox. I have found this position at times to be better than on top of the camera as the center of gravity remains more constant, less fulcrum effect on the tripod head.

What do you see the are benefits of a PDW 800 over a PDW 700?
Aside from the re-introduction of dual filter wheels, the PDW 700 can have all the options fitted to it that an 800 comes out of the box with.
