I’m still shopping for drives. But my processors did come in. I previously had one 2600 GHRZ Opteron Core. Now I have 4 cores same speed and architecture.
I noticed a good jump in preview performance. I can preview most any of my cuts at maximum quality without dropping frames. However, render time doesn’t seem much faster (which I found weird).
I’m starting to wonder if my antiquated operating system isn’t taking full advantage of all four cores. They are on two separate processors. Does anybody know if Windows Vista Home can support two separate processors. The resource screen only shows two cores yet device manager shows all four.
Additionally, I have 32 bit version of Vista. Is there a substantial increase when moving to a 64-bit environment?

Oh gosh… I was looking to do both. I want to sync the recorder with my camcorder while I’m shooting on set… And I want to do voice over narration. I have been watching this channel on Youtube…
Ultimate sound recording in Canon 5D / 7D
I just don’t know enough about sound equipment to even start shopping. Ultimately I’m going to have a dSLR that does video. Then have a good audio setup and save my junk HD handycam for multicam shots.
At least that’s my current thoughts.

I currently just have a sony handycam. It’s not a great camera. I’m looking to invest in a canon SLR w/ video capability though. Either way I need a better audio setup.
Any suggestions? I kind of liked the stand alone aspect of the Sony PCM-D50 are there similar setups from other manufacturers?

I just ordered a pair of Opteron 285 processors. It’s the maximum my motherboard will accept. That puts me up to four 64 bit cores at 2.6 ghrz a piece.
I don’t need too large a capture scratch drive. I’d think around 100 gb would do the trick. But I cannot seem to find any SATA-3 drives that are that small, only the older SATA-2 drives.
Does anybody know… is there a large difference in performance between SATA-2 and SATA-3 7200 RPM drives?

What if you don’t use the wizard and you just run the executable directly?
I don’t have the install disk in front of me. It’s not difficult to find though. Just try exploring the files on the disk.
I think it’s under the setup folder… then sony vegas folder or something to that effect.

Actually, I’m on a really really tight budget. So tight I made a nearly 6 hour long documentary on my – 1.6 Ghrz single core laptop with 2 gig of memory and 5400 rpm drive.
It was well um hard lol Sony vegas crashed a LOT. Will be nice to have a decent editing machine.

Hey thanks for the green drive tip! That’ll be quite helpful 🙂 I didn’t even think to look out for that on my last hard drive purchase.
My server (which does the rendering) actually sounds like a hoover vacuum cleaner and has something like a 700 or 800 watt power supply. It was an old number crunching machine we had at work (I used to design aerospace equipment).
It’s quite old but still has some good potential, such as two processor sockets which can support up to 8 cores (or possibly even 12 cores which I’m searching on right now).
Currently I only have one core. It’s an older architecture so the processors are cheaper, but still really fast. I’m sure when they bought it at work money wasn’t an option so they spent 10 or 15k on it.
It also has a SCSI controller on the motherboard. But I think I want to stick with SATA yet.

Na on question 2 I was meaning just like an overlay that displays next to the selected menu item. Mr. Mann was right and I just figured it out. It’s the button “highlight” properties 🙂
I’m slowly but surely churning out the menus. thanks!
