Just found out, you need an Intel based mac to read this codec. Alas, I am still stuck with a PPC. Need to hijack the boss’s quad core tomorrow for further testing….
More to come

[Noah Kadner] “I cannot recommend highly enough doing tests of your whole workflow before you use it on a production”
Yessir. We’ve had 2 shoots since the board was installed, and we didn’t use it for jsut that reason. Don’t want to ahve to figure out later that all yor stuff needs to be transcoded….

[Marc] “1. Dub to MiniDV with the timecode, which his loggers can then use for logging
Will work, but you will need a device to play the footage out with timecode (camera?) or ingest it, then play out with timecode, but then you would just log it, wouldn’t you?;-)
2. Somehow create a window dub on a DVD, which his loggers can then log
Same as above, need to play the footage out from something to make a realtime DVD dub, or ingest it and encode, then output to dvd, which seems silly.
3. Proxies — does the HVX record proxies like XDCam does? I apologize if this is an ignorant question — I’m still getting up to speed via the manual and have searched the forums for an answer to this and haven’t found one.
Honestly, i can’t answer this one, I have the 2000, which WILL record proxies, but I believe they are only usefull in the Windows version of the P2 Logging software, which I don’t have (need a PC, don’t ya?)
Also, what is evolving as the preferred method of archiving P2 footage? Plain old external hard drives?
We archive to hard drives, you can get 300gig seagates for about 64 bucks a piece, and we use the weibetech RTX100 trayless drive bay (https://weibetech.com/products/RTX100.php). Also, backup the actual P2 data from the card, and your project. There have been several times that either FCP or the editor (me) didn’t ingest some shots, and we had to go back to the original P2 data on teh archive drive. I’ll let you guess who’s fault it was most of the time….
Thanks for your answers and patience.”
You’re welcome, and good luck.

I have the HPX-2000 and just got the board installed last week, I haven’t had a chance to shoot or import anything with it yet., i am planning on doing that shortly. It was my understanding that if FCP didn’t iport AVC nativly, it could transcode it to ProRes. I’m not entirely sure on that though, i haven’t had as much time to research the matter as much as I’d like to, billable jobs get in the way, you know…
As soon as I have something, I’ll post.

Thanks to both for your options, I will try them both out, and see if one gives better results than the other. I am using editing into an older dv project, so jsut trying to get the best quality back out.
Thanks!!

Are you saying hta I can blow something up 33% and as long as its rendered it will look fine, or is FCP decieving me when it states that it is blowing it up to 133%, and it is really 100% vertically?
Hmmm….

Make you selection in your timeline with the in/out markers then-
FILE->EXPORT->QUICKTIME MOVIE
THEN SETTINGS ARE-
SETTING- CURRENT SETTINGS
INCLUDE- (WHATEVER YOU WANT)
MARKERS-NONEAND CHECK “MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED”
Don’t use reference movies, they will only get you in trouble later on, disk spae is so cheap nowadays, there is no need for it.
I thought you were exporting single clips, not whole sequences. So, yes, this is they best way to do it.Matt

Always use source compression, you don’t want to recompress everytime your import or export.

Isn’t there a host program issue with flash? I can makea QT, WMV, MPEG-1 and my client double clicks it, it opens. With flassh, doens’t it have to be hosted, or authored for it to play natively on a machine?
