Would something like this help?
I’m not entirely familiar with Color Correction.
People that I talk to that are, however, seem to think this would be a good thing to have in their workflow.I don’t know if you have a server you’re connecting to.
This may be of no help at all.I’m open to discussion and answering questions, or getting questions back regarding this;

Rob,
What did you end up doing with this? I’m curious to know where you came out with a decision. What rabbit hole did you go down?
How did that work out?
Let us know..I’m sure the forum readers would like an update.
I know I would. If you’re still in the market or want some suggestions.
I have a few things that may help depending on where your bottlenecks are.Just wondering where things are at on this subject you posted about.

Steven,
What Bob said.. – what Bob says is good.
PLUS…
Take my advice too.
Go look at PCShare from HELIOS.de –
If you have Mac’s check out EtherShare –This will let you get some nice speed transfers. Among other things.
Feel free to post back on your findings.
I’ll be here waiting.Matt Geier

Hi Chris,
Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, what is the format you’re laying out with now? (AVI or MPEG etc?)
I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD. Ive been using it for over a year now. It’s the easiest way to put videos into DVD format for me!
It will convert your video files to the DVD format readable by all standard DVD players, then burn automatically to DVD!
It is easy to use…give it a try.
1. Download ConvertXtoDVD here:
https://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DV…It can convert any video file.. like wmv, mpeg, asf, mp4, avi to DVD…
Add or drag-n-drop as many video files as the DVD can handle…
You’ll just need to insert a blank DVD..
Then click “Convert”..
Sit back and let yourself and your clients enjoy watching those video files on their home DVD player! =)ConvertXtoDVD has a lot of extra nice features as well…
Maybe that will help.
I’m happy to help further if I can. What do you use for Asset Management Software?
What’s your hardware / network / shared storage setup consist of?Let us know!

Hi Linda,
I wanted to find out your Interest in Asset Management.
Perhaps you have something already that you’re using.
A great one is Axle Video.
It’s inexpensive, and extremely valuable to the creative market.
It will run on a Mac Mini as the server.Have you used anything like CatDV or FC Server in the past?
If you need a resource to discuss anything such as this, or hardware configuration recommendations for the home, I can assist you.
Just putting that out there.Matt Geier

Hi Gavin,
What hardware are you talking about putting Infiniband onto?
Are you talking Macs? (if yes, there is no current Infiniband market for Mac, unfortunately.)
It does however exist on Windows and Linux to my knowledge.
But I would count on 100K to be on the super low cost minimum.Usually after you get all the hardware you need to do the job, the price goes up for the required items. This is similar with Fibre Channel, and other fabric heavy environments.
The future of Ethernet is the coming 40Gb and 100Gb products to the market.
The next 10 years, especially in the Mac world, will bring great things, I suspect.Let us know what you’re putting together.
Maybe we can help further.Matt Geier

January 31, 2013 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Six 1GbE Link Agg Connection vs. 10GbE Connection to SwitchHi Eric and Bob,
Here’s some things we tend to think about when it comes to this subject of 1GbE vs 10GbE.
It’s not true that the a Mac Pro has the limit of 2 x 10GbE Link Agg together. Where did you hear / see this from?
A Mac Pro 12 Core / with a decent processor config, and a minimum of 24GB of Memory (3 x DIMM – for a Video / Real Time Server), can easily handle 4 x 10GbE Link Aggregated to a 10GbE Switch. (For a more traditional “file server” you might find better performance with a 2 x DIMM configuration…Documentation on the DIMM slots can be found in the Mac Pro manual that touches on how the Mac can perform and utilize the memory channels differently.)
Six Ports (1GbE or 10GbE) will work fine;
If 1GbE, expect your aggregate bandwidth to be 100MB/sec x 6 = 600MB/sec…
If 10GbE(600MB/sec inbound / per link), expect your aggregate bandwidth to be the same as 4 ports (600MB/sec x 4 = 2400Mb/sec)
—Nobody will push that for several reasons.
Everyone knows that it’s the storage performance that knees off. The storage units today, are unable to keep up with what a 6 x 10GbE adapter could do now, assuming 6 x 10GbE clients connected.Small Tree, and I’m sure others, have many deployments where 4 and 6 port 10GbE adapters are link aggregated out of the “Server” into an a a 1GbE/10GbE Combo, or even an ALL 10GbE Switch.
I can speak of many sites running anywhere from 5-10+ all 10GbE to the Mac, some have switches, and some directly connect to servers.

January 19, 2013 at 5:21 pm in reply to: Billing/Invoice for Post Production – get specific?Hi Grant,
Personally I like to invoice a breakout by line.
I also like to “bundle” my prices together in some way as to offer a value
Package too.I think people tend to be more picky on final cost on the quotes vs already expecting an invoice.
You’re doing great with your idea.
Let me know if you want to collaborate more on the subject.
