I think Mike means decrease the graphic size by 4-5x 🙂
Your graphic is too large if you need to scale it down that much. Pan/Crop can only shrink by a factor of 8.
If you just want a small logo in the corner of the screen, you probably don’t need the graphic much more than 200-300 pixels wide (depending on output resolution – HD is “only” up to 1920px wide). The ideal size to make the graphic is exactly the size you need it in the output video. However, it’s fine to make it a bit larger than needed and scale it down to suit in Vegas. The more pixels you give Vegas, the more work it has to do scaling them down to fit into the output resolution.

If you ever need to, you can set the snap Grid Spacing in the Workspace settings on the left side of the pan/crop window. It’s normally 16 pixels because many video frame sizes are a multiple of 16.

The Pan/Crop tool isn’t really working backwards. What you are moving/sizing when you drag the handles in the the Pan/Crop window is the output video frame (relative to the source), not the source media itself. Normally you’d be shrinking the dashed outline by dragging the handles to select only a part of the input media (ie a crop or a Ken Burns pan), but if you enlarge it, you are “enlarging” the space that the source media will be placed into, therefore the source media will be smaller in the output video (this would normally be done using Track Motion). A bit odd, but once you get your head around it, it kinda makes sense…

I’m far from being an expert on these matters! The general advice seems to be to leave deinterlacing as Blend (or Interpolate which may give a better appearance with lots of movement/panning) for all projects. Deinterlacing will be applied if required for the output format.
By “staggering”, do you mean the comb effect you see in the picture in this post? (click the image to see full size) https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/918880 That’s what interlacing looks like on a device that doesn’t properly deinterlace.
If you’re editing AVCHD, try setting your project properties to match the source video (click the Match Media icon at top right of the Project Properties dialog and pick one of your clips), edit with that, then select whichever render template you want for output when you render.
Also do a forum search on interlacing – there are loads of threads related to this.

Just render your video to Mainconcept MPEG2 format using the appropriate DVD-Architect template (gives you a video-only MPG file), then render the project to Dolby AC3 format (gives you an audio-only AC3 file) using the same filename. Then drop the video file into your DVD Architect project and it will automatically pick up the AC3 file as well.

In the Project Properties window, there is a tab called Folders. On that tab, there’s a setting for Prerendered Files Folder, and you can choose a folder to use.

November 18, 2010 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Is it normal to take 11 hours to render an 80 min project in HD in Vegas Pro 10?If you have to deliver a standard definition DVD, then you might as well render your project to DVD format (Mainconcept MPEG2, and use the DVD Architect Video Stream presets, then render audio separately as Dolby AC3 if you use DVD Architect). This should be substantially quicker to render than MPEG4. If you render to HD and then only use that to make a DVD, you’ll have another recoding step when you create the DVD anyway.
You can’t be rendering to uncompressed MPEG4 – it’s either uncompressed (you’ll get a massive multi-gigabyte file) or MPEG4. HD MPEG4 and AVC are fairly slow (very CPU intensive) to render – I don’t know what render times to expect on that spec of PC though.

On my XP (32bit) box with 2GB RAM, the max Movie Studio HD 10 will let me allocate is 1GB. I generally have 512MB allocated to preview and this seems to work OK, but I don’t have particularly long or complex projects. 512MB is only enough for about 25secs of preview cache at quarter-size preview of full HD. You probably want as large a cache as you can get, without sucking up the resources you need for everything else that’s running.

The MP3 encoder that you get as part of the WAV format settings is built into Windows and (at least for XP) only allows bitrates up to 56kbps (ie not good at all). This will create MP3 data in a WAV file container.
In Movie Studio HD 10, I have a proper “MP3 Audio” option as one of the render formats. This is Sony’s MP3 encoder and has all the usual options (CBR/VBR, all bitrates, ID3 tags etc). Maybe this encoder doesn’t feature in Pro/earlier versions??

Check the deinterlace settings for your project (in project properties). You need to specify either Blend or Interpolate (experiment to find which works best) to get video suitable for PC or Youtube viewing. For DVD/TV output you can specify None, but the video may look bad (your staggering/combing effect) when viewed on a PC. Make sure you use the same deinterlace setting when rendering.
