Kyle, for a step up you could use After Effects. This does a great job with the images and you can also get good results time remapping/warping (speeding up or slowing down) the timelapse. Also, with FCP limitations on pixels dimensions, nothing over 4,000 total I believe, you could batch size these with Photoshop to something like a 2K or 4K size, which would allow you to push in and add movement to the images. this is a little more complex, but yields great results.

We run our Mac Pros with dual Startup Drives. One with Snow Leopard and FCP 7 as that is EXTREMELY stable. And the second with Lion and the Adobe suites which is extremely stable. Since FCP 7 was so stable on Snow Leopard we didn’t see any reason to move it forward to Lion so we took advantage of the extra drive slots and added another 1TB drive for Lion.
I was wondering if this might be part of the issue I’m having. Everything is currently running of a SSD drive running 10.7.5. Should I partition that drive or buy a 2nd and copy your method of dual boot systems? Also, running Motion 5, which is slick, so that with FCS 2 could be conflicting. The FCS 2 apps were moved to a Final Cut Studio folder when MOTN 5 was installed.
Just seems like a bunch of things could be going on. MOTN 5, FCS 2, CS6 and a bunch of other apps might just be butting heads. Along with the Hack set up. And not to mention the AMD 4870 GFX card isn’t technically support by Premiere either. Could be any # of things I guess.
Anyway, our plan is blow the machine away and start fresh, but wanted to see if I would benefit from the dual boot set up?

Interesting info. But I’m still struggling with this too. With DSLR and others shooing H.264 @ 420 color space, how is that better than transcoding to ProRes @ 422. I know you can’t add in quality if its only 420 to start, but don’t you at least gain more head room for correction and grading?
Also, when importing footage into Premiere, can you control how it interprets the footage. Is there any preferences or settings similar to how Avid MC does. You can select RGB, or 601 SD/709 HD and computer RGB. I know with FCP, you could not do this, everything was 601 or 709.
And with that, why would you want Premiere to upRez everything to 444 RGB? Why is this a good thing if your going to broadcast with 709 422 (YCbCr, or whatever it is).
Just trying to wrap my head around this since, I’m in the process of transitioning to Premiere.

Thanks Walter. Greatly appreciate it. I’ve actually looked into iMacs. Not bad at all. And I’ve read just about every article you’ve put out over the years, so I highly respect your knowledge base. Since I am a 1 man band I just need to make sure the set up I go with is not only good for FCP and Premiere, but also for GFX work. With Motion 5 and AE in my workflow, I basically need to have all the areas of post covered.
Probably going to have to deal with the Hack for while, as I haven’t worked on Windows for about 15 yrs. Again, I like the iMacs but expandability seems rough. Having to get a Thunderbot chasis for I/O card and external storage seems pricey. But then again, so is a juiced up Mac Pro. Hmmm!

This was my first project on Prem. Just this week. Slowly making switch from FCP to CS6. But want to iron out all the bugs before I completely dedicate my workflow to it.
BTW, Prem is nice. Its like all the good things from FCP and some nice things from AMC. Being a FCP guy that starting using Avid was fine. Its great, but I really like the way Prem is doing things. And with the Premiere Next coming soon, it looks like what FCP 8 should have been! But again, can’t commit until I solve a few things.
Also, looking to get a Deck Link Studio. I would assume it should run fine with the drivers installed but with the whole Hack thing, I’m nervous.

Sorry for not mentioning this but the other Hack is not used for post work. It’s used by the IT manager.
I work in advertising as the in-house editor and am a 1 man band, doing it all.

I did try both things. I launced Prem and held down Shift+Option to trash prefs. Opened project, everythings all good there. Edit fine, export ok, but still can’t Quit properly. Icon stays active in Finder, but app isn’t running. Check the Force Quit menu and see this:

Erik, just a question regarding the internal RAID 0. If only project files are being read and written to my RAID 1, why would I want those speeds of the RAID 0. There’s also no redundancy then either. I’m just more curious as to why I would want RAID 0 for only project files. My media is being read and written to on my RAID 5 external, which is plenty fast enough for full HD and ProRes workflow.
As for Hackintosh, why would that matter since all the drivers and hardware are apple compatible. The OS sees the same things it sees when loaded on any other Mac. Could just be the GFX card then.

Hey no worries. Gives me a chance to dive deeper into specs and learn! Chose RAID 1 just for mirroring alone for the project files. That is the only thing on that drive. PP, FCP, AE & Motion files, that’s it. I only did that because everything I’ve ready said both FCP and Premiere work best with project files on separate drive from media and not on the system drive. I could remove the RAID 1 and go back to 2 regular HDDs and use 1 as a back up. Media on RAID 5 external. Below is test speeds for RAID 1 internal. Averages about 80-90Mbs. Not bad, haven’t had any issues with it.
This system was built a while back for my predecessor, who was mostly a AE guy (not that these are good specs for AE either), but the IT guy, is just that IT. Not post-production IT and doesn’t know the ins-outs of post workflow. Its a different ball game! So I’m trying to change things.
I was a long time FCP guy and with FCP 7 no longer supported and X not being up to par for us, I made decision to move to Adobe CS6. I would love a Cuda card for the acceleration but this was system built before the switch was made, so I’m now having to deal with it.
Also, just bought Motion 5, which could be causing some issues with everything too. I’ve noticed weird things happening is that was installed. Love Motion and slowly making the the switch to AE.
