  • Thanks guys. I checked out for the day but will try your solution Andy, first thing in the AM. Yes, you can determine the alpha set up in Premiere like AE. Hope that works. I completely forgot to check that.

I get back to you all with my findings. Thx.

OSX 10.7.5 with a 3.39 Ghz Intel Core i7 on a built up Hackintosh
16 GB of RAM with OSX on SSD, (2) internal HDDs RAID’d 1 for project files and External RAID 5 for all project assets (media, GFX, stills, etc.)

  • Thanks. Here you are, at least I hope that worked!

  • Thanks Andy. No blend modes on those layers being animated. And turning off the lens flare and exporting w/Alpha doesn’t help either. Here is what I’m referring to. On the 1st frame when the transition happens you can see the logo coming in. On the alpha, you see black.

No Aplha: PR 422 rendered with background on in MOTN. Don’t want, due to adjustment layers in Premiere.

With Alpha: PR 4×4, background layer in Premiere, alpha GFX above adjustment layers is Premiere.

Is that just the nature of the alpha when exported? Will it work the way I want, dissolving in?

  • Not really cause there are multiple elements to this. Logo treatment comes in, then the CTA: company name, dudes title, and URL. Each elements fades in the same with an upward movement. Is there no way to get the fades any better through the alpha? Like the luma key trick on a lens flare or anything else. I’ve had this same issue with AE too.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, its too late to reshoot. And as a pro-bono piece, the shoot only had a crew of 2. No reflectors or anything, but agree they would help.

I think I’ll try and back off the contrast a bit and try to soften the overall color a bit. I’ll try and bring back some of the detail on the faces, because we do want a serious tone to this, just not eerie. Maybe just some simple desaturation and basic CC will do. The above was my first pass and agree its overkill.

Again, thanks everyone. I’ll see what I can do and what other tips I can find.

  • Thx Chris. I saw that model but unfortunately that puts me back to square one, cost. Can’t afford 3k, since I still have buy I/O too. I might be able to get 1500 or 2k for a monitor but still only puts me in the 720p range. Although that’d fsi is only about 500 more at 2500.

    Hmmmm. Decisions decisions.

  • Sorry guys, but would a cheap broadcast monitor like the Panny below (with blue only & HD-SDI but only 720p) or basic Sony (but 1080p & HDMI) for under 1K be worth it over say the Panny Plasma 42″ I listed in original post? If so, is it better to have 1080 or blue only and pro inputs like the Panasonic.

Obviously none of these have quite the features as this:

Is there anyone out there that does consulting work and could make some recommendations for me? What your rates are?

  • Thanks guy. All very helpful. Going to try and get the plasma for now, and as I start doing more color critical work, maybe I can get them to approval 2-3K for a good one. appreciate the help fellas.

  • Thx. I’m leaning towards the Panny, but praying to the money gods for an FSI. Does anyone know of a place to get a good used broadcast monitor. FSI’s, JVC, Panasonic, Sony….?

  • Thank you. Do you have any experience or recommendations on a client monitor for a situation like this? I was looking at a Matrox box as well due to the calibration tools, but have read some things about issues with Premiere. Have use BMD products in the past and want to either stick with them or go to AJA. But I just need a TV/monitor that is good for editing and decent enough for web video color grading.
