Yes!!! This stumped us for awhile but we just figured it out. When you create a Master Font Style, a reference to it is created in your bins. You can just select all of the titles you want to share a master font style and then just drag and drop the master font style from you bin onto the highlighted titles in your sequence. If you need to edit the master font style after applying it, just the change your settings on a single title and click the up arrow next to the master font style, that will update the style/titles everywhere.

I’ll be honest this one is a bit older than my recall goes back. I did eventually solve it, i think i had to start fresh and uninstall everything and start over. Subsequently we started using Pre-Roll post and all our LTFS headaches went away. I also recently had a lot of success using the LTFS configurator tool from I think HP.

Basically once I stopped trying to format tapes via command line everything just started working for me.

I’ve gotten rusty on permissions, now that I don’t manage an xsan they almost never come up. The strange part about the permissions issues I was seeing is the incorrect permissions were just more relaxed than the correct ones so I don’t get how they could have caused it but I also don’t believe in coincidences so I’m sure this has to be the root of the issue or at least related to it. I’ll let you know what I find as I keep pulling that thread.

I haven’t dug into FCPX still but I think I remember reading an article about how sparse bundles were the solution to FCPX and SANs. Actually I think it was a video series on the cow from Magic Feather. I chatted with them a bit after the video series cause I dug what they were doing with it.

I think you’re on the right track, I took a look at the permissions on a few projects files and there are differences, some files allow Staff to read only and other allow read write. Now I just have to figure out why they are different and if it’s actually causing the problem. Thanks for getting me going in the right direction man. My two main clients are in finishing crunch so I’m a little brain dead at this point.

The reason why 1080 looks better than 720 is purely a playback issue. Since 720p23.98 isn’t a broadcast format, gear like AJA has to insert pulldown on the fly and play it back at 720p59.94 to play it on a broadcast monitor. It’s the inserted cadence that makes it look so awful and produces the jittery movement that was plaguing me.

To step around this problem we’ve decided to create two masters, one for broadcast and one for web. The broadcast master will be uprez’d to 1080 23.98 and then married to 1080 credits. Since the web version doesn’t need to pass through any broadcast gear we can stay in the native 720p23.98 without any problems.

If you’d like to talk about it more and have me send you some sample clips we could take this off thread and chat some more. This was a particularly annoying edge case that I hope to never encounter again.

Thanks for responding so fast! But I think we are having a slight misunderstanding. The point I was trying to convey from AJA is exactly what you said, the card does voodoo to playback 23.98 at 59.94 on a broadcast monitor since 720p23.98 can’t be played back to broadcast gear natively. The voodoo that the AJA card does to play back 720p23.98 at 59.94 is actually what creates the jitter that is plaguing me.

(Also I should have been more clear that I expected placing the 59.94 roll in a 23.98 wouldn’t look good, I was just hoping against hope that the card would realize that section was 59.94 and magically not insert pulldown work even though I understand it doesn’t work that way. 12 hour days will do strange things to your psyche)

Just to make sure that the 720p23.98 is the culprit not just the 23.98 part of it I did a 23.98 comparison between 720 and 1080 and you wouldn’t believe they came from the same AE project. The 1080 23.98 isn’t quite as pretty as the 1080i but perfectly usable unlike my 720 credits. Also as part of my testing I’ve exported the 720p23.98 at as low of a rate of 2 pixels per frame and that still jitters like you wouldn’t believe on the broadcast monitor but plays back smoothly in canvas window.

But you’re right I should post in AE Expressions forum and see if anyone knows how to alter the expression in a way that would help prep the AE sequence for the playback conversion from 23.98 to 59.94 but my suspicion is that it simply isn’t possible.

Anyways did any of these solutions ever work for you? I’ve taken a look at the suggestions and non of them solve my problem so I’m hoping you might have found the answer outside of the forum.

I’m running into a similar jittering issue trying to make a smooth credit roll in after effects for a DVCProHD 720p60 23.976 show and can’t make them smooth for the life of me. After talking with AJA my understanding is that the issue is 720p23.976 is an acquisition only format so final cut can’t actually play it back. It’s really playing back 720p59.94.

Is any of this similar to what you encountered? I know this was 5 years ago but I’m about out of ideas at this point.

I also found this thread while searching on this bug and had a slightly different fix. My system doesn’t have a compatible graphics card so in the preferences I lowered the default 8 cores down to 6 cores and it no longer crashes on me.

After a few phone calls I ended up adding a Hyperdeck to my order, which I’m pretty excited about. Unfortunately it arrived with a dead SDI In port, which BMD has been great about and already got a new one in the mail for me.

Copying through the GUI I get the same error message as before about it being too large for the format.
