Thanks for the feedback, Guys. The editor is currently working through the project with no real problems so I’m leaving him to it for now. However, I plan to mixdown the audio next time we experience the said problems and I shall respond with my results. ;o)

I don’t have a problem with “physically” carrying out an audio mixdown – I’m just not sure exactly what this will achieve or how this will allow the editor to keep working, since he is still in the “Rough Cut” stage and is constantly pulling new clips in and out of the sequence. Wouldn’t this make the audio mixdown useless in that situation?
Most of the video clips are DVCPROHD or HDV rushes (1080i, 29.97).
All rushes were captured using the HD Extreme Blackmagic capture card on a separate station before being transferred to their media space RAID. Therefore, some of the VO audio is saved to the local hard drive, but most media is saved to the RAID. There are 4 other machines in the building connected to the same RAID “set-up” so I don’t think there is any issue in playing back off the RAID.
The problem is intermittent so it’s hard to diagnose.
No – I haven’t tried deleting any render files as yet. Perhaps worth a try?

No – haven’t tried mixing down. I’m not entirely sure what you mean, purely because the editor is still knee-deep in the edit. I assume you mean mixing it down to improve the sequence playback performance but I don’t really think this is feasible as he is still cutting from original rushes and re-recording VO on a daily basis. Please feel free to elaborate… ;o)
