The way to do this would be to first load up your FCP timeline in 720P with the MXO2. Under View–>Video Playback make sure that you choose a Matrox MXO2 720P setting either at 8 or 10 bit. The next step is to open the MXO2 control panel and take a look under the video output tab. From here you can choose to downscale all the outputs of the MXO2 by setting the Main channel to SD. You can also choose to downscale the analog and SDI outputs independently. On this same page you can also choose if you want to letterbox, center cut or just leave it anamorphic. Once you have set these options when you playback your 720P timeline in FCP you should now get a great quality downscale on your output.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris.

Haven’t had much time with it yet but color reproduction looks really nice so far. When putting up a 10 bit color gradient you can really see the difference when switching between 8 bit and 10 bit output on the MXO2.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Hi Jeremy,

Yes we are using the HP DreamColor LP2480zx monitor. In the specs for this monitor the HDMI revision is listed at 1.3.

You can take a look at it here.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Hi Jeremy,

Just wanted to clear something up in regards to HDMI output on the MXO2. The MXO2 does support 10 bit output over HDMI. This means if you work in 10 bit you will have 10 bit output over HDMI.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Hi Dan,

The MXO2 can capture ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ SD on laptops. In HD capturing to ProRes on a laptop is not possible right now because of CPU limitations but playing back HD ProRes on a laptop is no problem.

You might want to take a look at our FAQ to get all the info you need.
