It still amazes me how little support AE has for 3D. I’m not looking for this to be a 3D modelling program but I’d like to see some additional support for 3D. For example simply being able to extrude things, especially text, into 3D space. Why can’t they just add that in? And also being able to rotate 3D models, lets say .3ds models, would also be great.

I’d really like to see some support for 3D. Like the very basic being able to extrude things (especially text but also solids and shapes) into 3D space. Why on earth doesn’t After Effects allow this without something like 3D Invigorator or Shatter?

That seems to be what I’m looking for but could you give me some specifics. What I did was that I created the core of the galaxy with fractal noise and used a mask to cut it into a star shape but I got a little confused with the Time Displacement part. I precomposed the rotating galaxy “source” and then created a radial gradient as a new solid layer and then set the Time Displacement filter to use the solid as its source but nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

    I’ve got another question:
I’ve found that a company called Dosch makes lots of 3D models of various things and I’d like to know whether those models can be imported into After Effects somehow so that I can fly around them with cameras or composite them into my footage. Is this possible or do I have to import them into something like Cinema 4D to add the camera move?
Speaking of Cinema 4D, I just started learning it through some Lynda tutorials and I came to a wall right in the first modeling tutorial- it starts off with tutorial teacher making a cube and then stretching/compressing it by dragging on little markers located on the X, Y and Z-axises of the object but my problem is that I don’t have those little markers. How can I activate them?
