Just use “Replace with gap” function, it will delete the clip from the primary storyline and replace it with a gap. You won´t lose your connected clips. Look for it in your commands menu (FINAL CUT PRO > COMMANDS > CUSTOMIZE), I can´t remember the official shortcut because I rearrage all my keyboard shortcuts.

Also, It would be very helpful if we could connect clips to an specific timecode.

We could move clips/storylines anywhere and those clip would keep in their position, always on top.
