You may compress an h264 for delivery. But your master should always be in a loss-less format.

I tried to give you a simple answer, rather than some overcomplicated list of a thousand times and instances to use every codec under the sun.
But that looks like what is selling.

Apple pro res 4:2:2 HQ is really all you should strive to work with. The only exception being the animation codec if you need to include alpha channels.
I have worked in post production for 12 years now. I can assure you this is the standard we all use.

May 24, 2013 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Project is in 29.97 needs to be delivered at 23.976 fps. What is the process:?If the footage is 29.97 1080i then…
You need to go to the “intemperate footage” dialog for the imported clips. In the fields section choose “Upper field first”. Then click the “Guess 3:2 pulldown” button. If the effective framerate is 23.976… then you have just made 1080i into 23.976 progressive. If it does nothing it is not 1080i footage.
This only speaks to the footage. If you have done graphics or tracking or whatever on top of the footage… this will all have to be redone in a 23.976 comp.

May 24, 2013 at 3:07 am in reply to: Project is in 29.97 needs to be delivered at 23.976 fps. What is the process:?Is it native After FX keyframe information?
Or is it footage?
If so… Is the footage progressive? Or does it have 3:2 pulldown in it?
These questions need to be answered before I can give you any advice.

I would suggest living with it. This is… I think, the most un-problem problem I have ever seen posted.

BTW when i say trace. You need to do it in photoshop or something… I prefer to do it with a pencil type brush in photoshop. To do it with a text layer will never look as hood as hand tracing it.
You can see my technique in action here on the title card about 6 seconds in.

It is called a “boiling hold”. And yes it is done by retracing the same frame 2-3 times. Each time will be unique in its own way. Then u just rotate beteween the 2 or 3 images.
Advice: do it at 12fps (pre comp) inside a 23.976 or 24fps comp. otherwise it happens too fast and looks like crap.

March 3, 2013 at 12:41 am in reply to: Guideline for importing a 29.97 FPS footage to a 30 FPS compositionWhen impprting the footage use the interperate footage dialog and just have ae see the footage as 30fps. Over 16 seconds it wont really drop that many frames anyway so you will never notice. My answer assumes that your footage is true 29.97 and not 24 with 3:2 pulldown added.

cartoonsolutions.com has flash based cartoon walk cycles which can easily be brought into ae as flvs.
