Thanks for the comment, David. I haven’t looked at Catalyst yet – can it move or export that data in any way that’s useable by typical logging or NLE software (eg, FCPX, Resolve or anything Adobe?)

February 14, 2017 at 10:18 pm in reply to: workflow to import XML full of .MTS clips into resolveSorry Mike, I only just saw this! Having trouble getting notifications from Creative Cow.
It’s a frustrating solution, but that’s what we’re working with. Thanks. Perhaps we should go on a mission to smash all the AVCHD camcorders in Hobart…

I’d second that – if you’re comfortable with Premiere it won’t take you long to get used to resolve, especially as you’ve inherited a ‘complete’ project, rather than starting afresh.

Mercifully I got the project out the door cleanly. I’ll do a bit more experimenting to see if I can break it again and try and predict the behaviour.
Such a shame the imac is a locked box w.r.t. video card. It would be great if we could loop out to a better card.

I’m resurrecting this, as I’m also in this same situation – though there have been lots of lines of code under the bridge since this question was first raised.
Anyone know how to sync audio to a locked edit in PP elegantly?

As queried above, would I then have to manually trim each of these clips, as they no longer have a filename match?

October 18, 2016 at 11:19 am in reply to: workflow to import XML full of .MTS clips into resolveMuch obliged Toby, thank you.
If I were to rewrap then relink the clips in PP (or Resolve, for that matter), are the cut points (in & out timecode) of the clips retained? I presume I’d have to manually relink each clip?
I’ve just had another thought – Resolve brings in the timeline just fine, but it can’t successfully link the MTS clips. This timeline gives me cut points if the scene-detect doesn’t work on the single pre-conformed clip. I can’t envisage how to automatically use the timeline, but it’s a valuable cutting guide.

Hi Duke
Cheers for the thoughts. You’re right in that key framing takes more work than dropping on a fade-to-black and dragging out the length. It feels like buggy behaviour, but when I drop a fade-to-black on the text layers (layer 2) the underlying video layer dips to black too. Key framing the opacity works as intended (ignoring this problem I’m describing).
I had similar thoughts about the opacity affecting the underlying layer. I can’t replicate the problem reliably, but I don know that the text layer opacity change isn’t affecting the video layer – the video remains completely opaque until the text object finishes. from memory, erasing the key frames didn’t help. Again, without being able to replicate, I can’t be sure.
All roads are suggesting this is a kooky bug. Hopefully it never comes back…

G’day Chris.
Cheers for the tip. I’ll try and check Alchemist. Are you able to quantify how or why it does a better job? I appreciate that might be a difficult question!

Hi Jerry. Yeah, that does sound like the same problem. Thanks for the thought. If and when I see it again I’ll test your solution. Someone else suggested putting black slugs with 0% opacity in the gaps, which sounds plausible too.
It’s hard, as I can’t predictably replicate it. This particular project is out the door, but I’d love to be armed to handle it if I see it again.
Cheers.
