May 16, 2012 at 8:58 pm in reply to: New to Encore Need Assistance With Encode SettingsThanks Jeff. I am trying to get familiar with the Encore Menu that adjusts encode processes. I was using a timeline which contained AVCHD video edited in Premiere then linked into Encore. Does the original file type, i.e. AVCHD vs AVI file matter in the encoding. BTW – FCP would encode the audio to AC-3 as well from its native Aiff audio file.
I will go back and take a look at the menu for the encode rate. Thanks.

May 16, 2012 at 7:57 pm in reply to: New to Encore Need Assistance With Encode SettingsI am still a bit fuzzy on the length of the video. In FCP I can adjust the bit rate and encode almost 2hrs and 20 min onto a SD DVD. Of course the quality suffers bit. I tried adjusting the bit rate in Premiere but made no difference in the length of the video on the DVD – file was still too large. What am I doing wrong?

Well I jumped in and bought the Panny AC130 and a Canon XA 10 as the wide shot camera. What would you guys suggest as the recording speed on these cameras? I will be editing in Premiere Pro 5.5 for now. The DVDs will be standard DVDs not Blu-Ray. Just want the footage to look crystal clear on the large LCD TVs (unlike the pixelated video from the VX2.

May 2, 2012 at 8:50 pm in reply to: Need second camera for shoot with AG-AC130 – GH2 vs AF100?Good to hear that you got good results. I will be using the AC130 for stage dance productions in a few weeks. Question regarding your SDHC cards. My productions will run 3 shows 90 min each all in one day and 2 shows 2 1/2 hours plus each. Which combo of SD cards would you recommend i.e. 32GB or 64GB?

I have concerns about the PCM audio. My longest shows are 2 1/2 hours but usually there is an intermission to change batteries is needed. The Panny AG 130 is looking better then the Sony NX5 due to the radio interference I have read about. Has rolling shutter been a problem in the edit?

April 17, 2012 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Thinking of buying an AC160, but worried about coma/aberrationHI Guy,
I have been researching the Panny AC 160 as well. Coming from a Sony PD150/VX2000 combo I am cautious about Panasonic. I shoot alot of stage productions. How accurate is the auto focus? Especially when the stage lights may be dim? My attraction to the AC 160 is the ability to record to backup SDHC cards. Any insight into this camera would be appreciated.

April 17, 2012 at 1:04 pm in reply to: Need second camera for shoot with AG-AC130 – GH2 vs AF100?Hi Jonathan,
I found you post while looking for info on the Panny 130/160. I shoot events – mostly dance shows or stage productions. Had been using PD150/AX2000 combo. Was looking for a camera with dual SDHC cards for the backup capability.
How fast is the auto focus on the 130 when shooting a stage production. Does it set focus quickly or is there a lag? Also, what is the battery life on this camera?I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi Bill,
My first digital cam used with my JVC X2B was the Sony TRV900. Then I got the VX2000. Interesting that the HD cams are not better in low light then then 150 & VX2000. The problem with this biz is the upgrading of the equipment. I might just have to go into B&H myself to check out these cameras.

Mostly stage productions but a few events as well. The camera must be better then the Sony PD 150 in low lux and zoom capability.
