Hi all and please bear with me as I am new to Premiere Pro (FCP RIP). When I import the AVCHD files I get a series of files labeled: 00000.mts 0001.mts, 000.2mts . My process for importing is as follows. My cmeras are a Panny AC130 and Canon XA10. I shoot to SDHC cards dual record so one card is the backup. I place the cards in an SDHC reader and copy and paste the entire folder containing all the subfolder including the AVCHD folder to my computer’s media drive. From there I import them into Premiere Pro CS5.5. My project was a play which was shot without a pause until the intermission – approx 1 hr 15 min. The last part of the play was another 30 minutes. I expected to see 2 long files but instead I saw about 4 or 6 files. Some seem to be duplicates or short pieces of video. I only transferred the one SDHC card not the backup card. Can anyone explain?

    Thanks.

    Hi Martin,

Depending on the file format used on the memory cards, they may have a 4GB file size limit and therefore the longer video files are broken up into contiguous chunks.

It is good that you are copying ALL folders to the computer drive. Another tip is in Premiere, use Media Browser to Import, rather than just Import direct. The Browser interprets things better for tapeless formats.

    Thanks
