    Hi Wayne,
    Thanks for the reply.

Actually, the project settings of ‘upper field first’ was not meant to be that, it changed as I’ve been messing about. My project settings are matched at progressive, but this makes no difference to Mecalli’s behaviour anyway.

As I mentioned earlier, my project is 25fps and some of my clips are 50fps for slo-mo reasons, this should be fine.

I disable resample on my clips.

In answer to the frame size, this is movie industry standard cinematic widescreen setting, and perfect for wedding videos.

As I mentioned earlier, these settings have not changed, and Mercalli was working fine previously. But here’s a new spanner in the works…..
I opened up a new vegas pro blank project and copy and pasted the clip into this and the Mercalli result was fine. So I decided to copy and paste the rest of the project as well thinking the current project may be corrupted somehow. No it’s back to the way it was? Can you figure this one out??

    Hi Wayne,
    Thanks for the reply.

As i mentioned, my properties have not changed and all was ok before hand. Also, it’s not a rendering issue as I’ve not even got that far yet.

However, I have attached two screen shots…Screenshot 1 is of the project properties, Screenshot 2 is of the event properties.

    thanks

July 22, 2015 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Disable Resample – by default

I do some slo-mo work and also use Twixtor in places, 50fps works better. I have also found that whenever panning at 25fps, or using dolly track, it is not as smooth. I know that effectively scaling down from 50fps to 25fps is losing frames anyway, but it just works better for me.

However, even if smart resample is added to 25fps it still looks bad and ghosty. ..i really don’t like Sony’s offering with this.

I don’t know if I’m technically spot on, but we can only go with what works best.

If you have any advice John, I would appreciate it as I know you are a genius with this stuff.
    Thanks

    Hi John,
To be honest I disable resample on every film . I can record at 50fps and create a 25fps project. If I leave smart resample on it is awful when rendered…you can see the blurred frames that vegas is trying to create. When disabled it is far crisper. I have no idea why there is no function to turn it off by default, I too find it a pain having to disable all my events in turn.

    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for the pointers.

so, if a stop down as far as I can go, focus is sort on then I shouldn’t have this problem?
Do you think the brighter the lighting on the white the more it would bring out the contrast on the edges? I would consider reducing the lighting and brighten, or mask out in post.

That’s an interesting point you mention about glitches in video. I think if this wasn’t a still shot then it wouldn’t stand out so much. However, sometimes when the image is moving it can highlight it as there’s movement around the jaggies.

    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
Yes I’ve read a few articles on chromatic abberation, none seem to have the jaggies. Photo shop and the likes I see can reduce the colour fringing but when you have jagged distorted lines this can’t be rectified with that.
Admittedly my lenses are not top L class Canon, but Tamron.

    Thanks

    Hi Warren,
    Thanks for your response.
I’m not sure about that. The original .mov files from the Canon 6D have this distortion. I don’t know what you mean about h.264 compression?

Please could you explain for me.

    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for your response.

I have now managed to upload a still of the problem.

What’s baffled me is that I used two Canon 6D’s with different lenses, using different F stops from 1.4 up to 11….and they all have some of this problem. Incidentally, the close up images don’t have it but this wider shots have it worse.

Is it cause by the white background to bright, or not enough light? Too much light bring out the sharp detail?

How can a void this because this isn’t good enough.

    Thanks

    Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the response. For some reason it won’t let me upload my mp4 file. It’s only a 4 second clip of a static shot with no movement at all. It’s of a clothes rail, so all straight edges.
I used lighting and a white backdrop. It seems this made the image so clear that the dslr just couldn’t handle it so the top horizontal bar has gone all jagged….jjust like when you blow a picture up that hasn’t got enough pixels. It’s horrid.

Unfortunately any kind of blurring doesn’t work here as it stands out too much as though the shot is out of focus.
I can’t believe this is an issue with no fix or preventative??
I used a Canon 6D. I do believe it is sharper than the 5D sensor which may be the problem, but I knock the sharpness way down to only one notch….mmy be the one notch is too much also.

Does Neat Video plugins for Vegas work for this problem?

    Thanks

    Hi John,
Wow…I wasn’t aware you were the writer of the program …awesome! And it’s the only one of it’s kind I can find.

Excellent, I’ll be downloading and no doubt purchasing!

    Thanks John
