John, you’re a straight shooting type of guy and your langauge is crystal clear–thanks for the suggestion. i believe i can figure it out from here.

For all of those out there that have an .avi file directly transferred from old 8mm tapes, here is all you have to do. Go into DVD architect, insert that file, (make sure that you have sound as well)…edit your title and rt click on the actual file and insert chapters, then use the fit to disc option, and burn that bad boy. i burned a 26 gig file on one dvd yesterday and i tried it this morning and it worked. I’m using the trial Vegas movie studio 9. Would you please tell me more about how to render the video to TWO (2) DVD’s? When i try to render the video to one DVD, it ends up being some 6 GB and i cannot fit that on a 4.7 gig DVD. My questions are:

1. How can i render it to fit on two DVD’s? Is that possible?

2. Do i need to have another version of Vegas to go into ‘custom’ and adjust the bit rate to fit it on one DVD?

3. If no, then which option do i change? Do i adjust the slider (that shows quality 1-30) or the actual bit rates. If it is the bit rates only, according to your calculator, the combined rate should be 4853 and max 9570, should i adjust only those two, and what about the min?

I wonder if not having pro is what is limiting me, please comment

Oh, I see, not a problem.

I want to create these DVD’s for viewing on the DVD player and on television! I would like to know if it is possible to burn it on a regular 4.7 gig disk or maybe on 2 4.7 gig disks if possible. Can you assist please? Thank you so much in advance!

Theo, you are a scholar and a gentleman for replying to my thread, so let’s get to it…

I’m not sure if they are DV AVI files, I do not think so. They are simply Single files that were transferred from the camcorder to the computer via Windows Vista. (The camcorder was an older Sony Camcorder that took 8mm tapes and 8mm HI tapes. The tapes that were 8mm (older tapes) recorded for 2 hours, exactly, 120 minutes. So it is my goal to transfer that 2 hour footage to one or 2 dvd’s. I wouldn’t even mind doing it on 2 dvd’s, IF the quality will be better. I just don’t know how to do it. What do you recommend that I do?

Should i render the large footage in vegas again or go straight to architect? Which settings do you recommend that i use. What bit rate? Is there a way to burn the very large (25gig) .avi files onto say 2 DVD’s? If you would assist me with this, I’d be ETERNALLY grateful!
