There were a couple of threads on this semi recently on the Newtek’s Lightwave forum.

Oh, it’s one of those silly Adobe holdovers.
Without a layer selected, hitting the numberpad * key (NOT the one above the 8 key) will place a marker on the timeline. WITH a layer selected, hitting the same key will add a marker to the layer clip itself. Now you can slide the clip around to align with another.
If you did hit the * above the 8 key, it will add a numbered marker in the time line. Actually, any shift top row number will add that number.

Fairly new one over at aescripts + plugins. Haven’t tried it but sounds like what you described to be looking for.

October 15, 2017 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Removing background from an image based on a clean plate of that backgroundAh your right, in which case the OP could just use the built in Mocha AE to assist in getting a roto matte. Probably easier than the rotobrush I’d think.

October 15, 2017 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Removing background from an image based on a clean plate of that backgroundThat’s certainly worth giving a try, but don’t get your hopes up too high. The “easy” and definitely the most assured for success is using Mocha Pro ( https://www.imagineersystems.com ) as it has the Remove module. Ah, that link now takes you to Boris FX as they’re now the parent company. In particular:
https://borisfx.com/videos/basics-of-the-remove-module-with-mocha-pro-part-03/
That’s quite a price tag of course. But, it’s doing what native AE can’t (or at least very easily) as it can compare & select pixels over a time span and doing sub pixel manipulation to make things seamless.
A couple months back I had a tricky remove shot & tried for several days to see if I could do it “by hand” with just AE and Photoshop, and failed miserably. I’d pretty much given up on it when later in the week, Mocha Pro went on sale. Upgrading was on the wish list anyway, but the timing still seemed suspicious.

October 11, 2017 at 3:51 am in reply to: Having issues with LIGHTS and ELEMENT 3D in AFTER EFFECTS.Very strange. Hard to tell w/o actually having the entire project to dissect. Lights in AE can be confusing at times and Element can certainly get fiddly.
Probably only suggestion I can make is save a copy of your project & start picking things apart, tossing the extraneous & keep simplify the basic idea until you find what’s offending. Obvious there’s something in there lurking.
A thought though: Have you checked your geometry for surface normal settings? I’m assuming that’s your Element object.

I didn’t go any farther than that as your 2nd problem might be related the the first.

Only thing i can suggest is to double check that your source footage’s interpretation settings and your comp settings match. Make sure some pull down setting or frame rate value didn’t get changed from what you believe it to be. Get the basic sleuthing out of the way first.
