My 24″ iMac does have an Intel chipset. But it is 4 years old. Probably time to switch NLE’s and upgrade to a Pro Mac.

Thanks guys – this insignificant project will go out 4×3. I’m now shooting exclusively 16×9 HD using AVVCAM to ProRes, so for me, it’s goodbye HDV, SD and 4×3 forever.

I’ve been using a pen/tablet to edit for about 7 years now. I would never, ever go back to a mouse for any computing. Creating video is an art. I consider holding the pen akin to drawing and creating the way an artist would with a canvas. It makes me feel more like an artist sketching ideas rather than a computer geek absorbed by the technology. Just a little mental game but it works for me.

The next step is to stand at my editing station rather than sit. This is a technique Hollywood editor Walter Murch uses. Laugh if you choose, but ergonomics changes the way we create and think, IMHO.

Yes – the AJA would be my top choice. I should have clarified, the company I’m working for is cheap. They would prefer a lower price point. An alternative to Datavideo.

Turns out, my save dialog box came up out of view at the bottom of the screen. That’s an OS setting I have to figure out.

Don’t forget lighting. Arri has some great softlight kits. Old Mole Richsrdsons are available on Ebay. Bounce them, pump them through silks. At least buy some foamcore for bouncing available light into faces on the closeups. DSLR cinematography without lights is a disadvantage right off the bat. Or check for local gaffers in your area you can hire.

All the great DP’s started off first with a good understanding of lighting.
