    Hi,
there are mostly no consequences, for the simple reason that nobody really uses NTSC or PAL anymore as they are analogue standards. In the UK they have completely stopped broadcast of the analogue standards, don’t really know about rest of Europe but I doubt they do there either.

There are some legacy considerations, frame rates and sizes but again most people stick to the SD and HD sizes so not a lot of difference there. I actually prefer to record in 30fps, even if my camera warns me every time it starts that it is in NTSC mode! The main reason for this is that it helps to reduce jitter/stutter when subjects are moving across the screen. Also the default refresh rates for computer monitors is 60Hz, so unless you change that you should still be better off. A 60 Hz computer monitor should do better with 24 or 30 fps. Note a monitor at 60Hz refresh will do a good job with 25p.

People in this thread have already mentioned the main downsides, e.g. Broadcast or DVD will place constraints.
Also they mentioned the problem of filming lights that refresh at the national rates and then it would be better to choose that rate. However some cameras have a configurable Flicker Reduce mode where you can configure it to defend against Flicker generated by the mains frequency (however if you are running on batteries you should be immune to that.)

If you are just uploading to YouTube or Vimeo there shouldn’t be any problem, however if you are recording commercially then pay a lot of attention to the specifications they give you.

It is a shame about the Sony FS7 Community Forum. Unfortunately I think, from Sony’s perspective, it got a bit out of control.
They were hinting for a while that they are geography based forums whereas most users wanted them to be product based forums.

There are a few other forums that are useful, e.g. dvinfo. If you trust Facebook, there is the Sony PXW FS7 User Group.

In another post there has been a report of trouble with 1000 series cards. They also mentioned the Adobe supported gpu list.

When I say “supported” I’m really referring to a contractual or business statement. When Adobe puts a GPU on the list that is an implication they have tested it. I suppose it means you could sue them that card is subsequently found not to work.

That the card may work is a separate thing to whether it is supported or not.
If that list is old, is there another list that is up to date?

In these cases there was no audience to speak to, just the camera. I like the “rehearsal” idea. That will feature in my next recording!

thanks very much for that, I didn’t have the manual.

I had tried various button pushes. This morning I tried a “long press” and it worked.
I had even tried disconnecting the battery overnight but it remembered it was on when the battery was back.

    Hi,

I only use UDF Format, I can’t see that making a difference but worth keeping in mind as a last resort. FAT is supported but the comments about formatting on the camera remain.

Use the camcorder to be upgraded to format the disk (I think this is the problem).

The root directory, where you are placing it should be fine. I.e. the one at the top level on the device.
Note the warning about exFAT. That being so you should put it under the XDROOT directory.
Is it possible your SxS card is not formatted as UDF or FAT?

Can you see an XDROOT folder on the SxS card?

How are you getting the upgrade file on to the SxS card? I use the SBAC-US20.

Follow the other warnings about not leaving other media in there.

That should work. I’ve never had any problems but then again – I’ve not upgraded very often.

    Hi,
when you expand the firmware distribution package you should see group of files. In there is a pdf that has a name like: VerUpOM_Handy(E).pdf

There are other language versions there.

In spite of the unpromising name this doc contains the upgrade instructions.

January 11, 2018 at 5:31 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro 2018 Typekit synchronization

I made some progress on this.
The key seems too be CC Console (on pc). If you use a Typekit font in your project it does seem to remember what that font was. However if you re-boot the system and do not automatically start CC Console your project can no longer find those fonts. In this case I’m using the Roboto Slab series. Manually start CC Console and hey presto the fonts are there.
Even if you shut the visible part of CC Console down, it can still find the fonts. Of course, next reboot and they’re gone.

It seems to be very poor design as you have no visibility of what’s going on.

Transferring the project, and media, to a mac leaves you in a worse position as the missing font warning does not appear.

Perhaps we are now supposed to run with the CC Console on all the time? I view it as another tool that I spark up when needed

    Michael,
you didn’t mention what settings you had for auto/manual ?

I think this is as good as any forum for that camera.
