I do have the Canon XH-A1 working with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 now. But with Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, not 64. Didn’t install the 64 bit. I have the disk for that version too. But decided to go with the 32 bit. I’ve thought about going the 64 bit route. Since it captures everything just fine the way it’s set up. For now I’ll stick with this setup. Maybe any little hick ups wil be fixed by a faster video card. Only using a P4 3.06 ghz 2.5 gig ram, 256 meg ATI Radeon X800 video card. For the moment “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is the way I’m going.

I’m having the same problem with a Canon XH-A1 and using Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I can capture to windows movie maker in HDV and DV. But the camera doesn’t show up in device manager. Trying to use the Canon Console software. I had to install it in compatability mode and run it the same way for it to partially work. It will run the camera I.E fast Fwd, Rwd, play etc. But not capture anything.
I contacted canon about this issue and they told me at the moment the A1 and G1 are not supported for Vista at this time. If I plug directly into the firewire port on the ATI Radeon card. I can capture. But if I plug into the firewire port on the front. It locks it all up. I’m looking for some other sftware that may work too. I have Adobe Contribute. So figure trying out Premiere Pro should work. Same problem, software runs but says camera is not connected or needs resetting.
It would be nice after spending the amount of money for the camera that it would work the way I expected. No going back to XP to make it work for me. Without alot of extra work going back to what I had before I upgraded to Vista.
I’ll be looking around for some answers too.
