Cut all clips in the time line – Shift command B.

I rarely detach audio from picture. Select the clip – go to the inspector and turn off the audio tracks you don’t want and then edit away.

As for time code – are you wanting to jump to a particular time code of a browser clip or time line clip?

If you think of Keywords as “zip code” and notes as “address” you’ll do well in organizing. Putting too much granularity into keywords can create a real mess organizationally , putting the same granularity into notes does not.

I have to ask the question “why” would you want to have filenames 64- 100 charaters in length?

Agreed about P2 , especially the old stuff, unfortunately it is what it is, this is archival material that won’t change. I suppose I could transcode all of it to pro res but that would be an enormous pain, which if I have to go thru, I will eventually.

Control click on the audio transition whch will display 4 possible curve options, linear among them .

In the import window you can grab sections of clips I/O your first selection and then CMD -drag secondary selections. You can then tag them in the browser as desired. If you are importing .mov’s – say quicktime movies created when after capturing from tape, you won’t be able to grab sections unless you use Andreas Kiels little app called cam card which will make a quicktime .mov appear like a camera card to FCPX , and then you can grab desired sections of the QT movie same as if it were file based media.

I agree with Tony, the note card/ marker in the time line dichotomy is a litte odd. We are fortunate to have so many options to choose from in creating methods to organize our work. I painted a wall in my office with White board paint so I can write out big picture notes on the wall and change them as necessary. Other than that I try to keep notes, metadata, “programmer’s comments ” in electronic form unless I’m building something in 3 dimensions and then I use lots of masking tape and magic marker for comments.

Here’s a minor bug.
I’m importing some P2 clips from 7 years ago for a project. In the import window, the play point indicator – the thingy that shows us what part of a camera clip is playing back comes up as white, hard to see. If I resize the window, the playback indicator turns red, much easier to see, but then it will revert to white again if I start jog shuttling playback.

THanks- that OSX mission control setting for monitors have separate spaces had to be unchecked. Now FCPX displays come up the way I want them to when opening the program…
