We have recently updated the https://www.exmount.com website – now with shopping cart. There are some new products – for the EXMount and also for larger ENG style cameras.

Our rod system is now available. This will work with the EXMount and full size cameras (using a VCT-14/U14 type baseplate).

We have 3 versions of the front wedge plate available including one designed to accomodate zoom connectors on Fujinon lenses when using a rod system.

The original EXMount is still going strong – we’re coming close to the end of our current run and looking to do another batch soon. There are a couple more EXMount accessories on the website – and we’re always working on new ideas.

    Hi Marinko,

Using the EX3 on the Jimmy Jib was one of the main reasons we developed the EXMount (and for the Multicam system we operate as well). I’ve usually got my Fujinon 13×4.5 HD W/A lens on the front of the EX3 – so wanted a good solid mount to support the camera and lens. It works really well on the jib, tripod or on the shoulder.

I must update the exmount.com website with some new stuff we’ve been working on (rod system, extra mounting brackets etc) – plus some stuff not directly related to the EXMount.

We use EX3’s and ACM-21’s with 2/3″ lenses (Fujinon HA23x) all the time with great results. See pic below. We can often get away with using the 23x lens on the EX3 instead of a box lens on a 2/3″ camera. For most ‘event’ type coverage this works fine. The main thing is having a good tripod and pan/tilt head and a zoom demand is useful too. Even better, set it up ‘OB style’ with a large viewfinder and zoom/focus/iris controls.

Our EX3’s are set up on EXMounts (https://www.exmount.com) which we also manufacture – which allows better balance adjustment on VCT-14 tripod plates – and we can add other accessories (mattboxes, followfocus, radio mic rx, external recorders etc).

Its good to know that work is still being done on the original KiPro – but how about some more information – which features and when?

Re the timecode issue – as I said, I have emailed AJA technical support twice about the problem (several weeks ago now) – and received ZERO response so far, so its all very well to say contact technical support again – but if they are not going to respond, what should I do! Very frustrating!

I would certainly like to see AJA release another update that enables the functionality that has been promised – ie FireWire port on the back, Express slots on the front – plus fix any existing issues. I’ve previously posted about a timecode issue with PAL files – and emailed AJA support twice about the problem with no response so far.

It does make me wonder how much attention the KiPro is getting from AJA at the moment.

That said, the KiPro is still a very capable recorder with a lot of existing functionality that is hard to find on devices costing a lot more.

But still, there are other devices coming on the market now that look very attractive – and we’re still waiting for AJA to ‘finish’ the KiPro – so it’s probably about time (after 2 years) that they just got on with it!

We would certainly like to solve it as soon as possible.

I have emailed AJA support a few days ago – but not received a reply so far.

I am hoping they are well aware of the problem and working on a firmware fix for it!

No problem. I expected TC would be there pretty much all the time on LTC Out – so it was a bit of a surprise when it wasn’t.

I still think it would be a useful feature for the KiPro’s – I don’t know if its a hardware or firmware limitation – or both – but I’d like to see AJA add it to the KiPro.

Ok, so I can feed the KiPro’s TC from another TC source (Generator/Camera etc) via a distribution amp.

Of course, the ‘TC/REC KEY’ (8.3) option won’t work – as they will be being fed continuous Time of Day timecode – so each KiPro will have to be put into record manually (or via Gang record function).

Was hoping to keep the infrastructure to a minimum – ie no extra boxes, laptops etc.

    S0…

    – No TC output on the LTC Out when in Record – only Playback

    – An external TC source fed into ‘LTC In’ does appear to loop through to ‘LTC Out’ though. So it would be possible to loop from one KiPro to another from a single TC source fed into the ‘LTC In’ – but this is not recommended, best to use a distribution amp.

Ok, so was I misinterpreting that other thread:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/269/422

It seemed to imply that it was possible:

‘[Michael Craven] “I need to know if it’s possible to use 1 of the KiPros as my master TC generator and have the others sync to it.”

Yes, via LTC this is totally possible.

[Michael Craven] “If I set the “master” KiPro to freerun TC, will it continuously send TC out of the LTC port or only when it is in rec mode?”

Only in Rec, but it doesn’t matter as you can use the one Ki to control the rest of the Ki’s…read on.

[Michael Craven] “Also, where in the KiPro config would I specify the framerate for the TC?”

Menu number 8.0. You can choose tc in where you can enter the tc value (but only in whole number of hours, so 01:00:00:00 – 23:00:00:00), SDI rp188, LTC or time of day. For the time of day, you can set that parameter in menu 55.6. Once you have that set, you can run ‘LTC out’ to ‘LTC in’, in series to each KiPro and turn the other 5 KiPros tc source to LTC and to arm on tc. So that way, you hit record on the maser Ki, and the rest will follow.’

Are you saying this is not the case at all? It certainly isn’t working for me.

It would be a very useful feature – especially in the case where you have a master record – and backup or an iso record of another camera. For a simple setup like this it would be nice to be able to do it without the need for a separate TC generator etc.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Just tried firmware 1.1.1.11 – no difference. Timecode only appears on the LTC Out connector on playback – nothing when Recording.

I hope I’m missing something simple here – will keep digging.
