Technically speaking… internet access is NOT a problem.
However, considering how many of our editors have Facebook, IM, email, Twitter, and who knows what else open while they edit, I long for the days when we could say, “Uh un. No internet. It will crash your system”.
Stanford University just did a study about “multi tasking” and their conclusion is you perform less well on everything if you try to do it all at once compared to one thing at a time. This is why many states have outlawed cell phones while driving. I firmly believe if you’re editing, you need long periods of uninterrupted, intense concentration. Trying to keep up with the “outside world” while editing is just doing a disservice to your client or the project.
And… don’t just call me an old fart for thinking that… I’ve now got the academic research to back it up!

Not to be contrariarn… but BAD IDEA!
You want to tip someone… do it privately. I don’t care if it goes to charity or not. This forum is a FREE exchange of ideas and advice. Putting a “price” on it, even if it’s only voluntary is the first step down a slippery slope. There’s plenty of “advice” that comes from “non heads”. Come to think of it, there’s plenty of “heads” up there that I’ve never, ever heard from. What are they doing up there anyway?
Putting this kind of “implied social pressure” on a free forum is just plain distracting! Doesn’t belong there. You wanna thank someone, find ’em on Facebook and send ’em a heart!

An “editor” is many things. Artist. Psychiatrist. Storyteller. Technologist.
The difference between a good editor and a great editor is the degree to which they have mastered all of the above.

I interview alot of prospective employees. Frankly, I really don’t care what you wear… only that it be in
a “range” of appropriateness. Meaning: I wouldn’t wear a three piece suit… or shorts and flip flops. “Business casual” works for me.More importantly, you should research the company enough to know the answer to the question as to what’s appropriate. Check their website. What are people wearing. Flat out ask the person who’s scheduled the interview, “What’s ‘appropriate’ at your company?”.
Other tips? Show that you’ve taken the time to know something about the company/people you’re meeting with. Got the name of the person you’re going to be meeting? Google ’em. You’d be surprised at the amount of personal info you can find on line. Don’t be afraid to say something like, “I Googled you and the company this morning, and learned that ….”

No plans to switch at this time. We recently added storage and now some of our shows can go “full rez”, but most of them still can’t sustain the storage or the bandwidth required to work in full rez.
Our aquisition format is Sony’s XDCAM HD discs and this file based workflow makes the uprez process about as painless as possible.
