This is a hopeless task! With the case, you have a little bit of real estate to work with, but for the actual tape, the label is so small that you can barely put a number on it. If you try to just slap a label on the whole tape, it will definitely jam up your deck. I wish you luck!

Yes, it is. However, most mixers will immediately toss out all level changes and start over from scratch. Handles are determined when creating the OMF.

STP is a version 1.0 software. As such, it is a very “young” program when it comes to various workflow issues. What you’re describing is exactly one of those circumstances that have yet to be worked out.
My advice to you is to either suck it up and learn to love the render, or go use pro toools. In it’s current form, STP is NOT quite ready to do what you’re asking it to do.

We use XD-CAM almost exclusively on our shows. We work off-line at the “Off-line RT Photo Jpeg” setting. Using a J-30 deck, this comes across fine via firewire. However, for our “full res” versions, we playback from a MSW-M2000 which does NOT have a firewire port. Therefore, we come into FCP via the AJA box. Although you don’t say it, I think you’re asking: Which codec is best/possible via firewire. I would look at the IMX codec which FCP supports natively. This would give you the most efficient ingest. Hope this helps.

Have you tried soundtrack pro? That’s optimized for interfacing with FCP both in and out. No OMF’s needed. Just “send to” STP and you’re there. Logic is primarily focused on music creation and mixing, so I don’t think it will interface with FCP as easily.
To answer your question, I don’t think you can get there from here… at least not in the way you’re thinking.

We run dual displays on all of our systems. The firewire and USB connections are really only for convenience. You do NOT need to have them actually connected.
We usually do NOT connect the firewire to the monitor, since deck connections seem to work better right off of the CPU. The USB is usually connected to just one monitor.Mark

I guess I’m not understanding what you’re trying to do. When it’s time to redigitize, why would you want to upres the ENTIRE clip? Wouldn’t you only need the 3 seconds used in the timeline and not the 20 minutes from the original clip? My point is, that these new “ins and outs” from the “used” portion of the clip should be nowhere near the last frame of the original clip. Therefore, the error you’re reporting would not be an issue.
If for some reason you just want to redig everything, then you may run into the problem.
