Go to the apple website and watch their “tour” of Server. That should answer many of your questions.
Most of the things you’re asking about can be done now at the finder level or with FCP settings. Server does NOTHING for internal media management. It’s more of a way to share and find elements in a workgroup environment. I would NOT consider it for a single seat installation.

True. But, we’ve been successfully using four cameras on only two cards (one built in and one extra).

Yep. We have a four cam studio built around wirecast. We have done many 1/2 hour direct to the internet streaming shows. The problems we’ve had had more to do with connectivity that with the software.
You’re going to need an extra firewire card to “spread out” the bandwith.

Bad news! Editing is NOT a “Cubicle Sport”. Editors like quiet, private, darkened rooms. Cubicles require headphones and that definitely is NOT ideal for someone working long hours.
As for recommendations on companies, do a google search for local designer/architects in your area. It won’t be cheap! Good luck.

I’ve got the G-Tech Mini. Love it! Tiny. Bus powered. Choice of USB or FW 400.
Haven’t done sustained editing off of it, but sure is great for moving data from here to there.

I get it. But I’m suggesting that he take an aggressive, proactive step, and declare himself the “director” of “an army of one”. Think positive.

OK. I see where you’re coming from. You’re taking a pure “engineering” point of view. I’m taking a “real world” operational view.
You may be technically correct, but the term “broadcast format” has really become meaningless. In an era where cell phone video can and WILL be broadcast if it’s interesting enough, the tech specs of the pure “broadcast signal” format have really become meaningless.

Why not? So what if you have no one else… what about hiring outside consultants/freelance help.??
I would suggest that something like “director of video production” would be appropriate.
