hi,

i read with great interset the above thread about mp4 files and pixelation with sony vegas pro, i have had exactly the same problem all day with sony vegas pro 9, which drove me completely crazy today.

i started with mp4 files which, i recorded with my phone being a sony ericsson satio and then put them through adobe after effects cs4 to change the curves, add effects etc. the files were exported as mp4s at level 3 through after effects’s renderer. i chose the h264 codec as the render setting. i made no other adjustments apart from setting the ratio to 4:3 set at 1 pixel square. bottom line here is, some come out fantastic in vegas while others, which play normally in my media players, pixelate badly.

the problems are these:

how do i find out which codec was used when it was compressed? ie, divx, or xvid etc.

why do some of my mp4 files play fantasticly in sony vegas and others not? am not sure if this has already been answered.

is there a cure all, good quality codec which works for vegas and gives a good quality image? i like mp4’s lack of file size relative to its quality.

is there a codec pack that can be installed to sort this problem out?
have just installed the k-lite codec pack, will this help?

ps, these dumb little problems have been driving me up the wall in general for a long time and not just today, they are the major things that continually stand in the way to me just getting on with it and being creative.
