Yes. All great advice. And don’t forget that you need to make sure your footage is labelled with the proper camera angle so the multicam tracks line up.
It’s also a fairly simple matter to step into the multicam clip and re-sync clips that don’t line up correctly.
When I’ve used it, I’ve been impressed.

Thanks Andy,
Logging in as a different user and installing the plug in worked perfectly.
Now I’m worried about what may be going on in my regular log in to keep the installer from working.
Personally, I’ve got so much stuff installed on my MBP, I’m afraid of doing a clean install of Mavericks and getting everything back to where it was. I use time machine and I’ve used migration assistant before, but it still can take a lot of time and attention.
Maybe it’s time.
Thanks again.

Hmmm…
This didn’t work for me. I know I’ve been able to import directly into FCPX before, but I think Mavericks broke that.
I tried downloading the plug-in for Mountain Lion. Double-clicking on the installer gave me “Extracting” progress bar, which went to 100% very quickly and then disappeared. After the extracting window went away, I got nothing, so I don’t think anything got installed, and FCPX still can’t see media on my Canon card.
However, I was able to go into FCP7 and import using Log and Transfer. My old plug in still works there.
So, some of you can use the Mountain Lion version of the plug in on their Mavericks?
I downloaded xpfm-2-1-1-8-9l.dmg from the Canon website, and the XPFM64Installer extracted and nothing after that.
Any thoughts?
Thankfully the Canon isn’t mine, but I want to be able to ingest the media from the cards in fcpx.
Thx.

Hmmmm..
A week or so ago, I was having so much trouble with one particular project crashing and freezing, that I nuked all of the thumbnail and peaks media, and that seemed to help…
that particular project.
With me, it’s less the j-k-l keys, and more the cursor scrubbing in the event browser. It seems to always occur when the thumbnails are redrawing.
My media is generally on a second internal drive I put in my MBP. I imagine it could be a drive problem, but my gut tells me it’s an issue with FCPX, since I’m not having trouble with other apps.

Depending on the length of the clip, one thing to try would be to select the audio clip and press cmd-R to open the speed track. You can now adjust the length of the audio track to match the video.
Oh, I forgot, in 10.1 you can now type in a custom length. Select the audio, pull down the speed menu and select “Custom”. You can now type in a specific length or speed.
I’ve gotten burned by audio drift too.
Good luck.

February 14, 2014 at 6:11 am in reply to: How to blur or censor multiple faces or imagesI’ve had good luck with Alex Gollner’s Circle Blur effect.
I apply the effect and dial in the radius, amount and center. At the first frame of the clip, I create a keyframe for the center parameter, then I go forward 10 frames in the timeline (shift-right arrow) and move the center of the blur to the new position, and keep on doing that until I get to the end of the clip. I play the clip from the beginning and see how the blur is tracking, making some adjustments by adding keyframes where I need to.
I then add another Circle Blur effect and do the same thing for the next blur I want to track.
You can add as many as you need.
I’d turn off the previous effects every time you add a new one, to keep the machine from slowing down, then turn them all back on when it’s time to render.

Another goofy idea that may just work…
The crowd noise may not be good for getting the clips to auto sync, but if you were able to feed the same audio source into one channel of each camera, such as a play by play announcer, or a radio station, you could sync a number of clips automatically.
Otherwise, I agree with keeping the clips long. Perhaps one per quarter

For what it’s worth, you can label your standard markers with any text you wish, and they show up in the timeline index. You can filter them to reveal any marker names you want.
Seems pretty powerful.
However, if anyone asked me, I’d love to be able to assign clip colors on the timeline, based on roles, or some other criteria.

All of your projects should have been converted and placed into an event called “Updated Projects”.
From there, you can move them back into whichever event you’d like to.
If you’ve checked and are sure you don’t have the updated projects in your event, you can create a “Final Cut Projects” folder on your drive and put your old project folders in there and try to update them again (File / Update Projects and Events”.

January 6, 2014 at 7:52 am in reply to: Libraries instead of Sparse Images – is it that easy?Yes, I doubt the program would look inside the bundle for the changes, and simply re-sync the entire bundle. Make one minor alteration to a timeline, and a 100gb bundle will copy over from scratch.
I see the advantage to keeping the media outside the library. Those are very good things to consider. Thanks.
One mod I’d request from Apple would be that libraries appear in the event browser sorted by the drive they’re on. I’d like that option. Until then I’m including an abbreviation for the drive in the library title.
