How to blur or censor multiple faces or images
I have a client who requested me to blur multiple moving/shifting background images on one clip. I know can use censor and or shapes to create the keyframes for one image but I am having difficulty trying to do it with multiple image in the clip and shot. I did duplicate the clip to blur one of the images but if it is in the same shot can I blur both separate or will it use the same one blur effect? Will I need to duplicate the clip yet again to achieve the multiple blur effect?

Do you have Motion 5? Because you can create a blur effect that you publish to FCPX that will do the job without needing to duplicate anything.

Lots of free plugins for FCP X that will allow you to add isolated blurs to an image.

If you need a leg up here’s the basics of what you need.
Create a new effects project.
Clone the effect source layer.
Apply a mask to the clone layer. Publish the controls.
Apply a blur effect to the clone layer. Publish the controls.
Then in FCPX, you just continue to apply the effect to your clip for each blur you need to make.

I’ve had good luck with Alex Gollner’s Circle Blur effect.
I apply the effect and dial in the radius, amount and center. At the first frame of the clip, I create a keyframe for the center parameter, then I go forward 10 frames in the timeline (shift-right arrow) and move the center of the blur to the new position, and keep on doing that until I get to the end of the clip. I play the clip from the beginning and see how the blur is tracking, making some adjustments by adding keyframes where I need to.
I then add another Circle Blur effect and do the same thing for the next blur I want to track.
You can add as many as you need.
I’d turn off the previous effects every time you add a new one, to keep the machine from slowing down, then turn them all back on when it’s time to render.
