Thank’s for those pointers, they did help somewhat. The original file is just an uncompressed animation file.

The background texture is pretty detailed and there is a fair amount of animation going on. I’m going to try going back into the original texture eps file to make a bit simpler as I suspect the transparency there is causing a few issues too. Just strange I’m not seeing it in the uncompressed render.

You could use a mask then apply a Displacement Map to it, then animating the mask path.

Markus Gustafsson shows an example how to do this in this technique here: https://reels.creativecow.net/film/markus-gustafsson-be-water-part-2

It was a Continuously Rasterize problem after all.. With it switched on it displays the edges of the pattern tile when scaling down, but not when scaling up. Like when you zoom out in Illustrator the preview does the same thing.

Texture layer with it switched on:

    Result when switched on:

Texture layer with it switched off:

Thanks again for everyones help. We live and learn.

I can’t post today as the file is in work ( I had to just walk away from it! ) – but it’s just pretty much layered as described above, no alpha or luma with pattern on top of silhouette.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Not that familiar with Write-On, will give it a whirl and hopefully it’s pretty straightforward.

Aso thought I may be able to use multiple strokes/masks varying sizes and animate them individually.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Hi Cassius,

There are no photoshop styles applied, all artwork was created using Illustrator. Will place both layers on the same z-position and place the building outline above as you said. Think that should work.

Forgot to mention above that this is in AE CS5 on Mac OS 10.6

    Thanks!

    Hi Ted,

Thanks for getting back to me. All layers are 3D with no 2D in between.

I was having some scaling issues when I pre-comp(ed) the individual bars. They always end up larger than before, so I moved the z-position back a touch to line it up. Think it may be this coupled with the short focal length of the camera I’m using increasing the space between the layers that’s causing all the trouble.

If I include the building outline in the pre-comp, do you think this will sort it out?
